Shindreia “DRE”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
In 2023 I found myself lost and unsure if I could find stability and fulfillment in my doula career. I was heartbroken and questioning what my purpose really was, who I really was. I was unsure of everything I’d built. I’d spent so much time, energy, and prayers to get there. But it didn’t feel, possible any longer! It was then December 2023 I started sharing my photography and art journey as a form of healing. That opened up a world of peace, wonder and community that I didn’t know I was missing.
I had a way to write my narrative without having to ever say a word. I was still building and growing with others, and that sparked something me. I can share, do, be all the things. Healing and growth, isn’t meant to be a linear journey. So neither does my fulfillment in life.
My purpose is already written. I am covered.
So in the end I would say…
Take the risk. Do the thing. Show up for every part of yourself.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Story goes, I’ve wanted to do doula and birthwork since I was 6 years old! I saw it on the TLC network and was hooked ever since. Nurturing and learning have always been what I loved to do. It’s what I did effortlessly. Life granted me many opportunities to care and love on others, in ways that grew me as well. As I grew in understanding myself and how I wanted to show up in the world , I surrendered to expanding, to doing more! I needed a title that could encompass all that I found passion in, and how I used a multitude of veins to achieve it. Building and proving community as we all navigating our personhood was exactly what I saw myself doing. Through many services, I have been able to achieve building communities , virtually and irl that made life worth it, for others, and myself. If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
All in all , yes. I would expand just as I’ve done. I’ve grown through my woman and personhood, doing the call of birth work. There have been many times I’ve prayed for my heart to desire different, something “regular” and predictable. However spirit has made it clear, this is my purpose. Im just happy I get to expand in my craft by honoring each version of myself.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Compassion, love, vulnerability, authenticity, community and empathy. Being myself.
I truly love what I do and who I do it for!
