We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sherrie Dawn Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sherrie Dawn, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Becoming a buisness owner was one of if not the best choice Ive ever made in life!!! Not knocking anyone with a nine to five..God bless you! But not everyone is made for a traditional job setting..I paid my dues for years as a call center rep. Lol
Ive never thought for one moment about going back to a regular job!
I absolutely love being a buisness owner and being able to do what I love creatively in my own right.
Its not for the weak but its so worth it!

Hello! My name is Sherrie Dawn Wilson..
I’m a female barber and entrepreneur..Ive been in this industry for almost 15 years! I absolutely love what I do! Im a creator and a therapist lol and I change lives daily throug my craft. I am a mother of 5, I did customer service in a call center environment for years! I then went to nursing school. No one wanted to hire an “inexperienced nurse” so I knew at this point it was time for my true love to come into fruition! Doing hair..I started out as a cosmetologist then transitioned to a barber. I love the barbershop setting and cutting mens hair and Ive thrived at it for years now..In 2018 I started my own natural beard care line called Krowned Beard Care! This is my baby! My products were made with everyone in mind end Ive not had one instance in 6 years of any type of skin irritations or problems. They’re actually very healing and good for the skin and hair. They smell amazing. My products have been featured on Amazon. We’ve also made it to the news a few times so Im very proud! I have many clients who have come to me with alopecia or thinning issues..also some cancer patients. My products got their hair growing in unbelievable ways. What sets me apart from the next barber or entrepreneur is that Ive put my heart and soul into everything Ive created. I am a Woman in a predominantly male based industry and get nothing but the utmost love and respect for my work ethic and my stance in my community.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
It’s been a long journey with many ups and downs for me but..
Ill share with you guys what I feel has been the biggest hurdle recently, that’s shown my most resilience ever..
For years I’ve suffered chronic anemia which was caused from a natural body function..I also experienced uterine fibroids as well..
Every day for me was like waking up on a quarter tank of gas, yet I got up and took care of my family and my clients as if I was 100%!!
I was always completely drained..
After many drs appointments and
what seemed like a million blood tests it was recommended that iron infusions was the best choice for me..
That was an experience within itself..whew!! I felt like a new Woman for a good 6 months!! My follow up appointment showed that I was right back in the same position..
So now Im forced to either get the infusions every 5 or 6 months for the rest of my life orrrrr the big H!!!! Which I dreaded for years!! Long story short on
May 29th I had my hysterectomy and Im now 5 weeks into my 6 weeks recovery..
The healing process was out of this world and so mentally and spiritually draining..But God!!!! Although I went through a terrible time until my surgery Im so thankful and so blessed that God gave me another chance at life!
Don’t ignore your body…listen to it attentively..I have a whole new lease on life and now Im better than I’ve ever been..
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
This is a good one. Ill be honest Ive never experienced any capital funding, silent investors or anything of that sort. Everything I built was strictly me and God! I have been blessed with winning a few grant contests and that was amazing! But other than that it’s been all me. I always say you have to be your biggest investment and it indeed takes money to make money..
