We were lucky to catch up with Sheena Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sheena , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Once a year I offer a “Pay what you can” session. This is in memory of my late mother. It is my way of giving back to the community that has done so much for me. All while meeting new faces and making an impact on people I may not have been able to meet otherwise.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started photography as far back as elementary school. I was always part of some sort of TV production or photographer, journalism class. I started professionally in 2011. And started believing in myself and my work in 2019. I currently offer any and all photography for instance family portraits, weddings, maternity, newborn as well as boudoir. I am most proud of the community I have built with the women in my community and teaching others about empowering themselves, and their young daughters.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
My first professional camera was gifted to me at my baby shower of my first son. Chase your dream photography was born, which blossomed into what She is Art Photography is today!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I want to quit so often, slow work schedule, too busy of a work schedule, not enough family time. But then I realize so many people need and want me to document their lives and that fulfills me more than I could ever imagine.
