We were lucky to catch up with Shavon Ransom recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Shavon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Before I became a mother, I worked a traditional 9-5 job at a physical medicine rehabilitation center. I truly enjoyed the work because it allowed me to help people on their healing journeys and support them as they worked toward getting their bodies back to a healthier place. Being able to play a small role in someone’s recovery was meaningful to me.
But in 2017, when I became a mother, my life completely shifted in the most beautiful way. I made the decision to become a stay at home mom so I could be present during those moments with my children. That role became my greatest calling, and raising my three babies has been the most fulfilling experience of my life.
Of course, there have been moments when I’ve thought about what life might look like if I had stayed in a traditional 9-5 career. I remember one particular day when I was juggling motherhood, household responsibilities, and trying to carve out time for my creative passions like dance.
But as I sat with that thought, I realized something important. My life may not follow traditional schedule, but it’s filled with purpose. I get to be present for my children’s milestones, create magical memories for them, and still nurture the creative spirit inside of me that has always existed.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my amazing partner, who works so hard and supports me in ways that allow me the space to grow as both a mother and a creative. His encouragement has played a huge role in allowing me to rediscover parts of myself, like returning to dance and embracing other creative outlets that bring me joy.
So while my path may look different from a traditional career, I’ve learned that happiness isn’t always about the structure, it’s about fulfillment. For me, that fulfillment comes from motherhood, creativity, and the ability to pour love and imagination into the life we’re building for our children.
And in many ways, that balance has helped me become the most authentic version of myself.

Shavon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a proud stay-at-home mom of three beautiful children who inspire me every single day. My son Bryson is 8, my daughter Bryley is 5, and my youngest daughter Brylen is 4. Motherhood has truly been the center of my life and the role that has shaped me the most. Raising them, creating meaningful memories for them, and being present in their lives has been one of my greatest blessings.
At the same time, I’ve always been a creative at heart. Since I was a little girl, I’ve had a deep love for dance and performing. Dance has always been a place where I could express myself freely and connect emotionally through movement. After becoming a mother, I stepped away from performing for a season of life, but my very close friend like sister Crystal, encouraged me to rediscover that passion and helped open the door for me to return to performing again. That experience reminded me that our passions never truly leave us, they just wait for us to return to them.
Alongside dance, another creative space that I’ve grown passionate about is social media creating and management. I’ve always loved storytelling, creativity, and connecting with people, and social media has become a powerful platform for doing exactly that. Over time, I realized I had a natural ability to help businesses and organizations share their stories, build community, and present their brands in authentic ways online.
That passion eventually led me to start my own social media management business. Through my work, I help individuals and organizations create engaging content, manage their social media presence, and connect with their audiences in meaningful ways. Many businesses struggle with consistency, creativity, or simply finding the time to show up online, and I enjoy helping solve that problem by bringing strategy, creativity, and heart to their platforms.
What sets me apart is that I approach everything I do with authenticity and purpose. Whether I’m performing through dance, creating content, or managing someone’s social media presence, I truly care about telling stories that feel real and meaningful. I believe people connect with honesty, and I try to reflect that in my work.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing I think people who aren’t creatives sometimes struggle to understand is that creativity isn’t just something we do, it’s a part of who we are. It’s how we process emotions, how we express ourselves, and how we connect with the world around us.
I feel like for many creatives, the journey isn’t always structured or predictable. There are seasons where inspiration flows easily, and other times when life responsibilities take priority and creativity has to take a back seat for a while. In my case, becoming a mother was one of those seasons. My focus naturally shifted to raising my children, and for a time I stepped away from parts of my creative life like dance.
But creativity has a way of calling you back. Even when you pause, the passion is still there waiting for the right moment to reappear. Rediscovering that part of myself reminded me that being a creative doesn’t have to compete with other roles in life, it can grow alongside them.
Another thing people might not always see is the vulnerability that comes with putting your creativity into the world. Whether it’s performing, creating content, or sharing ideas, you’re often sharing pieces of your heart and personal experiences. That can feel intimidating at times, but it’s also what makes creativity so powerful.
For me, creativity has become a way to stay connected to myself while also inspiring joy in others. Whether it’s through dance, social media storytelling, or creating magical moments for children, those expressions come from a genuine place.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most special parts of my journey is being able to let my children see me in my creative space. As a mother, my kids see me in many roles every day, but when they see me creating, dancing, or working on something I’m passionate about, it feels really powerful. I love that they get to witness their mom embracing the things that bring her joy.
In many ways, it’s not just about the art itself, it’s about the example it sets. I hope that by watching me explore my creativity, they grow up understanding that it’s important to nurture the things that make you feel alive and inspired. Seeing their excitement and curiosity when they watch me create reminds me that creativity is something that can ripple through generations.
At the end of the day, creativity brings a special kind of fulfillment. It allows me to stay connected to who I am, while also creating moments of beauty, joy, and inspiration for the people around me, especially my children. And that, to me, is one of the greatest rewards.
