We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shannon Gentry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shannon below.
Alright, Shannon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed
My first attempt at starting a business was a failure. I invested quite a bit of money and only made back about half of what I invested. While technically this was a failure because I didn’t make my invest back I choose to view this as a learning experience. The company was big into personal development and encouraged me to start that journey. This also open doors into the online business world that I didn’t know existed.

Shannon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Entrepreneurship is the most intense, exhilarating personal development journey you will go on.
It can feel lonely and hard. There’s so much to figure out and learn.
And there’s failure. Lots of it.
But then you build resilience.
I was a teacher, a new mom, happyish. I had wonderful family and friends.
But there was this nagging feeling that something was missing. I realize now that I felt unfulfilled.
I had no idea what the future would look like. I knew I needed to figure something out.
So there I was, a late-thirties Catholic school teacher, navigating all the life changes that come with being a new mom. I was unsure and I felt stuck.
It was time to figure out who I wanted to become and what I wanted out of life.
I had to decide.
Through a series of random events I discovered the world of online entrepreneurship and my life was forever changed.
After taking a freelancing course and lots of self development, I started taking on clients. I would do anything someone would pay me for. From general admin work to marketing tasks.
I was navigating a divorce, left teaching, and landed a role with a local startup company, handling their social media and managing their online community. There was lots of discomfort.
During this time I discovered Brooke Castillo and The Life Coach School podcast which led me into the world of self coaching and learning a simple tool called the model that changed my life.
I was able to leave my full time job and run my business full time. Eventually I became a sales and mindset coach in several million dollar coaching programs.
I found myself being fascinated by entrepreneurs. Their tenacity. Their drive. Their ambition. Their willingness to take action. Their thoughts. Their struggles. Their dreams.
As I moved through these different life transitions and as I worked with my clients, I realized that every single challenge could be traced back to a thought. This is where the model is so important. Our thoughts create our emotions and feelings, dictate the actions we take, and then create our results in life. Our brain is, without a doubt, our most powerful tool. And our thoughts are the very root of our personal development and self improvement.
I’ve discovered that being a coach and helping entrepreneurs navigate the rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions that come with growing a business, is exactly what I was meant to do. My mission is to help entrepreneurs master their mindset so they can create the life and business they desire.
In 2021 I became a certified Life Coach through The Life Coach School and started working with private mindset coaching clients.
The reason I’m sharing this story with you is because I want you to know that your goals, dreams, and ambitions are possible.
The reason I’m here today is because I made a decision and I was willing.
Willing to say yes
Willing to search for my purpose
Willing to evolve and grow
Willing to work on my mindset
Willing to invest in myself
Willing to feel uncomfortable
Willing to figure out what I truly wanted
Willing to fail and try again
Willing to put myself out there
Willing to put in the work
If you’re willing you too can change your life. It’s possible.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my audience organically. I’m a big fan of Facebook Groups and adding value. I love connecting with other business owners. I recently started my own Facebook Group so I can connect on a deeper level and help them with their mindset.
My best advice is to show up as yourself. The more I’ve shared and voiced my opinion the more engagement I’ve received.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’ve been through a difficult divorce. I started my business during a stressful time of life but made it work.
