We recently connected with Shane Travis and have shared our conversation below.
Shane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a historical figure you look up to? Who are they and what lessons or values have you learned from them?
I grew up in a house filled with both music and musical instruments. My Dad was a professional musician in the late 80s and he had a huge influence on what music I was exposed to as a kid growing up. He consistently put on Jimi Hendrix records and I immediately gravitated towards his music.
Jimi was a pioneer on the electric guitar, doing things with his instrument that none other had attempted before. The soul in his playing was unrivaled, his charisma was eye-catching and this helped Jimi reach the pinnacle of the music scene extremely fast.
As most of us know, Jimi died at the young age of 27. The lesson I try to take away from this is that no matter how successful you are, we are all mortal. Our time here is fleeting and in an industry like the music industry, I try to not take days for granted. I try to create, write, and practice everyday because one of my hero’s never got the chance to even see his 30s.

Shane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As far back as I can remember, I had aspirations to be a musician. I wanted to follow in my Dad’s footsteps because seeing old pictures of him and his band inspired me so much. I began writing songs in high school and took songwriting as a whole more seriously.
In 2019, I began my journey as a full time professional musician by getting the slot to be the lead guitarist in a country band. However, I still also front my own band that plays my original music at venues across the valley.
My original music is written and produced by myself and I’m lucky enough to have a core group of people I can lean on for editing notes on my music. My biggest goal is to keep writing music to build my fan base so I can tour the country and/or the world showcasing my songs.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When COVID lockdowns first hit in March of 2020, all of my schedules shows disappeared. I moved back in with my parents to save money and I just kept writing and practicing. It was tough not being able to 1) Make income from performing 2) Get on stage and do the thing I love to do the most.
But I never thought of walking away and now I’m busier than I ever have been as a professional musician. This is giving me more confidence with my own original music and brand.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Performing shows at venues such as Crescent Ballroom and Kazimierz is very helpful in getting my brand and sound in front of an engaged audience.
