We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shadarryl Mcfalling a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Shadarryl , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I have a bachelors degree in marketing and a masters degree in HR and I was getting jobs that was not paying what I thought I deserved so I started just not caring and end of getting fired from my last job. I ended up moving from Columbia to Charlotte with just my 401 cash out and got to Charlotte thinking things would get better as far as opportunities and it didn’t! I was also receiving unemployment as well and it ran out and I still didn’t have a job/career. I decided one day that I was going to try amateur night at the strip club because things were getting real and I felt like I had no other options. That amateur night turned into years of dancing. I became addicted to the money and life became great! After a while as I grew wiser , the club became a burden to me and my life and I had to figure out what is it that Shadarryl really wanted to do. Still I had no clue because I felt like a job wasn’t going to pay what the strip club paid and I didn’t want to work for anybody. I always wanted to own my own business, but didn’t know what type of business I wanted. For a minute I felt defeated because I started to think like I don’t know how to do anything so what will the business be! Throughout out the years I have been getting cosmetic surgery done and it requires massages! I love getting massages because of the way it made me feel and the results! So I was dwelling on it like can I do this because I’m tired of school and I’m not willing to go back to school because I’m burnt out! I couldn’t get out my head how good it felt to receive a massage and the results from receiving one. Then spirit said I got you and I went with my heart to go to school to become a “Healer” and in that I can own my own business. Becoming a massage therapist and opening my own business has become the most rewarding decision of my life.

Shadarryl , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Amazen Spa by Envi is a luxury massage spa that promotes relaxation, stress relief, and a pain free lifestyle through therapeutic massage, while supporting you in a healing yourself holistically. My focus is to provide natural solutions as well as education that ultimately result in helping you achieve optimum health and happiness.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I funded my business by taking out a equity loan, savings, and credit cards. My budget to fund my business was 60k and I end up spending 90k. I started with the equity loan and it was only 33k. I had two cars so I sold one to help fund and also maxed out my 25k credit card! I built my business ground up because I wanted my space to be “my space” I wanted it the exact way I pictured it in my head so I built it on my property. It’s everything I could have imagined and more and all the debt I’m in is well worth it because it’s mine and I will never have to pay overhead or answer to anyone and that alone make my heart happy and me proud.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients is social media and word of mouth. I’m still learning this marketing thing but I met a lot of people from being a entertainer so that led to social media presence that led to clientele. I’m a new business. I just opened up September 1st 2022 so I’m still building my brand. Things have been steady but it’s more motivation for me to go even harder. Doing tik toks and reels also help because people can see your work.
