We recently connected with Seth Boyer and have shared our conversation below.
Seth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up, it was very easily to idolize my family members, in particular my dad. Even if you ask me today on who I strive to be like, I would still say him. But, one day during school, someone asked who ELSE I idolize or look up to besides my dad. After a brief moment of thinking, I had a sudden realization that besides family, every single person I looked up to was an artist in someway shape or form. Whether it was a guitarist from my favorite heavy metal band, A YouTuber I’ve been watching for years, or B-list actors who had a role or two that impacted my life, they were ALL artists. That’s when I had the idea and thought “what if I can be that artist that inspires?”. So to sum it up, I decided I wanted to be a creative at a very young age once I realized the impact that they had on my personal life.

Seth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an actor and social media content creator. I got into acting by luck, which between you and me, is about 80% of it. I walked into an open audition for a McDonalds commercial, and was in line with like 80 trained actors. I was one of the only ones without a headshot, or a resume. And to paint the picture even more, I was first in line because I got there early before everyone else. I walked in, had to cold read the script, and completely bombed. But… they really needed people my age, so next thing you know, I was working on a paid McDonalds commercial. After that, I studied theatre performance at Bradley University before moving to Chicago and signing with an agent. I’ve been lucky enough to work on pretty cool things. I was a Co-Star on NBC’s Chicago Fire, and also won “Best Actor” award for my role in a short film called Mara.
As far as social media, I am a content creator in the city of Peoria (or PeORRiaa….) I go around and show off local businesses, mostly leaning towards restaurants. This has been so fulfilling for me, because a little 60 second video for TikTok can change a local business for the better. There are so many family owned businesses that can’t afford thousands on advertising, and that’s where I come in. I will make sure everyone knows about the gems in my city.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I selfishly would be following both of my paths regardless of my success because I truly enjoy being creative. But, the ultimate goal would be to provide for me and my family doing something creative full time. It’s who I am at the core. Whether it’s TV and Film, social media, or music, I definitely want to do that for a living comfortably. During my “peak” months, it was a reality, but there are always ups and downs in this business.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Being authentic. That’s honestly the key. I posted for years before finding this out. During my early years, I would post videos and act like the other successful influencers I saw. And to be honest, it kind of worked? But people watched for the place I was showing off in the video, no one watched for ME. I wanted people to enjoy my videos not only for the amazing local place I was showing off, but I wanted them to want to watch to see me as well. As soon as I started acting more natural and authentic, the viewers stayed. In my experience, people want to follow someone relatable, and I think that’s the key. Just be yourself. I think I’m at the point where i feel comfortable saying that people are not only following for the content within my videos, but also because they are interested in me as a person too. I hope.
