We recently connected with Scott Blossom and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott , thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My personal journey into brain health was inspired by the loss of my mother to Alzheimer’s in 2020. What began as subtle changes in her decision-making and organization eventually led to a diagnosis of Ophthalmic Alzheimer’s. Caring for her at home with my twin brother Michael, I witnessed firsthand the emotional, physical, and financial toll of the disease. This deeply personal experience inspired me to explore not only the scientific causes of cognitive decline but also holistic ways to prevent and reverse its effects. I had already been in practice as a licensed Acupuncturist and Ayurvedic practitioner for 25 years and this shifted the whole direction of my practice.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Āyurveda, Yoga somatics, and evidence-based nutrition into my clinical practice and educational offerings for more than 25 years. Experience has taught him that the one secret to health is not a what—not a product or a specific practice—but learning how to adapt whatever you are doing so you remain potent and agile through the seasons of your life.
Founded in 2011, my organization Doctor Blossom is dedicated to optimizing cognitive health by combining Dr. Dale Bredesen’s ReCODE Protocol for prevention and recovery from cognitive decline with Āyurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Yoga. All Doctor Blossom offerings help individuals take charge of their brain health and build a foundation for lifelong vitality.
The Doctor Blossom community encompasses:
Our signature program: Foundations of Cognitive Health
NooVeda Community: making the teachings and practices for optimizing cognitive health accessible to all (Opening in May)
Online integrative health courses
Immersive, in-person programs
Innovative Āyurveda and TCM products
Live therapeutic yoga classes
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would. The best thing about being the kind of doctor that I am is that it never gets mechanical or boring. I have a natural and insatiable curiosity about health, and cognitive health especially, that has allowed me to continue to learn and grow my knowledge even after 25+ years of practice.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
I have kids and I remember when they were little they loved the movie Mary Poppins. She had a saying that “well begun is half done.” This is so true!
Most health practitioners are not born marketers or business people and I have often seen them make the same mistakes I have of trying to save money by doing everything themselves. One of the best diecisions that I ever made was to pay for expert help and advice to structure my offerings, marketing, paitient management programs, and even my financial organization and process with the help of consultants. It did require putting up $25 K to get things organized but the quality of the systems that they helped me create serve my business success everyday and allow me to stay focused on doing what I do best which is health education and patient care.
