We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Mundy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Yes! As a hairstylist, vacations are near and dear to our hearts.
The biggest key to preventing burn out is taking much needed vacations.
Whether it’s a stay-cation or a vacation in another country, it’s vital to our success.
I recently took a vacation to Canada with my husband, kid free. It recharged my battery completely.
When I returned to work behind the chair, I had new and interesting stories to tell my clients about while being totally relaxed and refreshed.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into my industry a little late in life (30s). I watched my mother do hair for 20 years while growing up and followed in her footsteps. It took me ten years or so to really find my passion and it happened to be the same passion she had.
My mother passed away while I was still in school. Some part of me thinks she guides my hands as a do each and every client.
I think what sets me apart from other stylists is the genuine friendship I strive to have with my clients while at the same time respecting their boundaries and knowing that sometimes they just wanted to sit in my chair and have quiet time while they are pampered.
I am most proud of the way I make each client feel when they leave my chair.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes! Continuing education is plentiful in our industry. I highly encourage new stylists to dive deep into continuing eduction through social media, networking, etc. You can never have too much knowledge when it comes to our industry.
Cosmetology school is breath but it only prepares you to pass your state board exam. The key to gaining clients and keeping clients is through continuing education!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals and word of mouth!
