We recently connected with Sandra Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Sandra , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
When I decided to move forward with starting my floral design company, I began researching immediately. Researching what licensure was needed, what floral education options there were so that I could have a foundation, what supplies florists use and consistently need, what website domain is the best, what flower types were so I wasn’t completely in the dark when trying to order them… basically anything I could read about flowers and wedding florists is what I would consume. I would use my off days to pick up flowers from the local wholesalers to practice building arrangements and watching any YouTube videos I could. Free education was a huge part of the beginning of my journey with this business.
This season of my business lasted for a couple of months towards the end of 2020. We had a family accountant that was willing to file my business paperwork for me to form the business licensure and LLC right off the bat. She counseled me on how I should be filing and what write-offs were, how to book-keep, and how to function as a business with my finances. This was key for me to learn as I continued building my company.
I began marketing my business with a new Instagram page in January 2021; launch month. Business licensure was official and I was finally able to announce this venture to the public. This was the scariest part, honestly… having everyone I grew up with and everyone I was friends with see what I was doing behind the scenes. It was intimidating and nervewrecking putting myself out there to advertise the start of this business.
Now I’m in my fifth year of business, and it is the best job I could have ever created for myself. I’m thankful I took the leap of faith!

Sandra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Sandra Davis, owner and lead designer of Wildly Rooted Floral Design in Birmingham, AL. We serve our local clients as well as anyone who wants to bring us where they are– Southeast and beyond.
I got into this industry by helping a friend of mine in college with her newly formed floral and calligraphy business. I loved it so much and I think it left an imprint on me. After realizing that the medical field would not be where my soul would feel fulfilled, I was put into a position of thinking about “what’s next?”. My husband took a nursing travel job where I was able to quit my job in the field and tag along with him. It was then that I brainstormed on what I could do in my life that would help me scratch the creative itch while being able to have sustainable income. Within months of this life change is when Wildly Rooted was born.
At Wildly Rooted, we provide multiple services with full-service wedding and events being our most commonly booked service. Our other services consist of A La Carte florals which we will be launching shortly (stay tuned), rehearsal dinner and private party/hosting floral design, and corporate/branding floral design.
I believe we have shaped Wildly Rooted to be the perfect solution to brides and brands that are looking to convey a feeling with their florals. We all know flowers are pretty, but not every designer knows how to evoke emotion with them. We seek clients that value the overall tone of their day; those that realize florals play a MASSIVE role in the overall design of their wedding or event; those that value artful, sculptural, chiq and nature-inspired floral designs. Flowers hold memory. They can honor. They’re meant to be a perfect piece to the puzzle, not just the cherry on top.
I’m really proud of the progress we have made in the past few years, but mostly last year in 2025. My husband was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia in April of 2025. This led to him needing a bone marrow transplant to save his life. A terminal diagnosis is one that will always throw you for a loop and question all of your life choices. But this business remained strong. We had amazing teams that were able to take over for me when I needed to be where I was needed most– by my husband’s side throughout treatment and a strong mama to our toddler. It was during 2025 that I was most grateful for the business that I had built, God willing, that allowed me to remain flexible in being where I was most needed but also having built such wonderful friendships and relationships with other designers and freelancers that I could step away. I’m proud of our industry friends who we have met along the way. I’m proud of the community turned family that we have gained in this space. I’m proud of us holding Christ in the center of chaos, in personal life and in business.
The main things I would want clients/followers/fellow creatives to know about Wildly Rooted:
We care about the details. We care about the flower stems that you want to set aside for your late mother in remembrance of her during your ceremony. We care about the peonies that you told us reminded you of your grandmother’s garden. We care about the way the bouquet is shaped in your hands to best flatter your dress and to ensure your bouquet compliments your bridal look in the best way. Bottom line- we combine our care of the small things with artful, sculptural, nature-inspired, chiq floral design and you receive magical florals in return. This brand was meant to envoke emotion, spark creativity, and ultimately become a sounding board in the wedding industry. I think we are right on track and look forward to watching it grow over the next 5 years!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for us at the moment is Social Media (Instagram/TikTok), Word of Mouth, and Planner Connections. All three are wonderful ways to receive new clients and they’re all *free*. Instagram/TikTok are powerful marketing tools that I believe EVERY business should be utilizing before they begin paying to advertise elsewhere. Brides and non-wedding clients are using these platforms to search for their vendors and inspiration. Think of it as your virtual portfolio. Word-of-mouth and planner connections make up the other 60% of our inquiries which I find wonderful. Past clients who have recommended us or planners who have taken the chance on us and loved their service and want to work with us again or refer us is simply the best.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Although I do not have any part-time or full-time “staff”, I do have weekly teams of independent contractors or freelancers that help me carry out my weddings. It is very important to be that I am kind and respectful to my team. I am as good as my team. I cannot produce the weddings that we do without them.
Doing my best to keep things organized and stress-free is something I will always be working on. Providing a safe work environment with plenty of time to fuel up on long work days. Being considerate when things don’t go the way we plan for them to. And overall just having gratitude for the flower friends in my life who truly have made such in impact in not only my business but my personal life. These are things that I notice keep morale high.
