Hi Samuel, thanks for joining us today. What’s something crazy on unexpected that’s happened to you or your business
The photographer from our wedding saw something in me, that I wasn’t seeing. March of 2022, Jake Zaepfel asked me to come meet him for dinner so we could discuss goals I had for taking my business to the next level. The very next day, I put my notice in. After working in healthcare for over 20 years, I finally had that push I needed to make that leap of faith. The very same day that I had put my notice in with my corporate position, I booked a destination wedding to Hawaii (with Jake) and we were leaving 4 days, after my last day. 9 months later, I am the happiest I have ever been and I’m making more than I could have ever imagined. Grateful for every opportunity that I’ve had and humbled by all of the support.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. With over 4 years of professional videography experience, I fell in love with Storytelling and wedding filmmaking after i put the bottle down and picked the camera up. Prior to filmmaking, I had worked in health care for over 20 years. I’ve filmed everything from commercials, to music videos but my passion lies in weddings. There’s nothing better than getting to be a part of a couple’s biggest day, capturing it through my lens (while we have tons of fun) and getting that reaction after delivering the final product. I genuinely enjoy the entire process, from filming the wedding to creating a life long treasure. I believe what makes my work stand out against the others is that I’m not afraid to REALLY let the couples personalities shine through both audio and visuals. I mean, at the end of the day, isn’t that what they are paying us to do? Tell THEIR story and not a perception. I’m also a firm believer in helping others so, whether that looks like donating time to a non profit or helping another creative elevate their skills, I’m here for all of it!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn that there are no real rules, when it comes to how you want to tell your story through video. I always thought I had to go by the books but quickly learned, it’s those that that don’t, that really stand out.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Creating those relationships! Not everyone will remember what you said, but they will always remember the way you made them feel.
