Sameisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an anecdote or story from your schooling/training that you feel illustrates what the overall experience was like?

Training with San Jacinto College North, the instructors were kind and motivating. They provided us with skills beyond the classroom to prepare us for state boards, clients, and employers.

Working full-time in the Child Welfare sector while in the program, they were understanding and encouraging when I had to step out for phone calls or other work related issues.

I would recommend the San Jacinto College Cosmology program to anyone interested in pursuing a career in this field.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

After working in social services for 16 years, I decided to pursue my passion for the beauty industry. My first attempt of gaining my Esthetician license was delayed due to the pandemic in 2020. The program I was in shutdown and never reopened.

In addition to this, I also became pregnant later that year and decided it was not a good time start a new program while pregnant or with such a young child.

Someone told me about the San Jacinto College program and I immediately placed myself on the waiting list. This was in August 2021.

Fast forward to January 27, 2022, I learned I was pregnant again. Shocked was an understatement! At this time, I was 40 years old and after years of infertility here is my second child in less than a year.

That same night, I received an email from the head of the program sharing someone dropped out and if I registered that evening I could start the following week. I felt this was meant for me, I didn’t hesitate and the registered immediately. Before starting school, I wanted to start creating a brand for myself. A few nights later, I literally woke up and said the name Skynvy (skin to envy). I did some research immediately to see if this name was taken and it was clear in according to all searching local and abroad. I registered the name and began the trademark process shortly after.

I graduated the program in December 2022 and obtained my license in the same month.

Skynvy Houston specializes in corrective skincare and waxing services.

I believe in setting the vibe for your visit. I want all of my clients to feel catered to when they are being serviced. Skynvy Houston is a space where my clients are encouraged to release themselves from whatever stresses them during their day to day. My goal is make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

My most popular service are The Essentials and Gentleman’s Facial which provide deep cleansing, extractions, steam, and customization based on their skincare needs.

Since its inception, Skynvy Houston has grown in recognition within the Houston area. I am proud of this!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

It is my hope that my story motivates someone. At the age of 40, with a full-time job, infant, and expecting my second child, I accomplished something I told myself prior could not be done.

It was not a smooth road, there was a brief period I considered quitting. I’d be dishonest if I said otherwise.

However, I completed my program despite it all. I am thankful to be a Licensed Esthetician today.

I would do it all over again if I had to!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

In order to move forward, I had to unlearn the people in my life who questioned my decisions. There were some who did not understand why, after several years in management I was taking on a project that was completely different than my prior field.

When God speaks, He speaks to YOU. You are not on a conference call and nor do you need permission to follow what HE has for you.
