We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samario King. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samario below.
Hi Samario, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I discovered Yoga by being invited repeatedly by a lady I ran into at the farmers market. I started going to her class regularly and Yoga really helped with weight loss and mental clarity. I made yoga a part of my daily practice and eventually decided to train to be a Yogi. Right after I finished my certification, I went to Egypt and saw yoga poses on the walls of the valley of the Kings and decided to study more about ancient Egypt. I discovered there was a Yoga flow created from the hieroglyphs called Kemetic Yoga. I got another teacher training and started teaching friends. One of them ran a regular yoga class and they hired me to teach a Saturday class on my birthday! 50 people came to the class and the photographs gained a lot of attraction throughout the area. I was offered teaching jobs by two different studios right after I got laid off for my full-time job. I taught yoga for 8 months before I found a full time job but never quit teaching yoga part time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started teaching because I wanted to show the different things that Yoga could add to your life. Initially, it was just a physical addition, but I quickly learned the mental benefits of the practice as well. Now I provide not just Yoga, but Soundbaths and Meditation’s with a live band to help people with flexibility and mental clarity.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I’m met my business partner at a yoga class. It’s rare to see black males diing Yoga and he was a really good athlete. I found out. He was a musician who was new to town and wanted to get more into the local Yoga scene. Not only did we become friends but he brought his Soundbath band to my next session and they joined me in my classes to play while I teach!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that Yoga was just physical. It took me a while to understand not just a mental benefits, but the benefits of sound, vibration and meditation. Once I started pulling all these different tools together I became not just a better Yogi, but I understood the practice much deeper.
