We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Pearlman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha below.
Samantha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
I have been a photographer for 8+ years. It started with taking photographs of the early morning sunrise. From then onward, I expanded into nature, architecture, landscape, & dabbled in portrait photography. However, for the past five years, I have wanted to be a concert photographer. I was nervous & decided to stick with what I was comfortable with.
Five months ago, I sent an email to a local venue hoping they would take a chance on me since I had never previously photographed a concert. To my surprise, I was accepted & granted a media/photography pass.
Fast forward to now, I have photographed Wallows, Pat Benatar, Oliver Tree, Conan Gray, & Death Cab For Cutie. It might have taken five years, but I finally worked up the confidence to do what I love.

Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a photographer from St. Louis, Missouri. I specialize in landscapes, nature, and concert photography.
In my day job, I am a Mental Health Therapist in an Elementary school & Middle school. I want children to have a safe/caring adult that they feel safe talking to. My goal is to be someone they can talk to.
Additionally, I currently have a global writing project going on. About two years ago, I started a book concept called “The Next Page”. The idea was to have 175 people from around the world come together and create one story. Each individual writes one page. The Next Page Book project is all about collaboration, creativity, and diversity.
This book is about identity, growth, mental health, acceptance, connection, and love. Currently, this project is in the editing stage. You can find out more about this book project on Twitter @thenextpgbook & the link to the website is in the bio section.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal has and will always be to try to have fun and connect with others. Photography, to me has always been a way for self care and mindfulness. I always want to keep branching out and trying different areas of photography.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer has been that my photographs are able to catch a moment in time and share the beauty this world has to offer with others. It is really easy to get caught up in the day to day life that we can miss beautiful moments. I get the opportunity to share these moments with others and share my perspective.
