We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Nimerov recently and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
This question comes to me often from within- why didn’t I dive fully in to my creative pursuits sooner in my life? Often times I feel regret for not doing so. But then I look back and trace my path up to the present moment and realize it just couldn’t possibly have gone any other way. I WAS committing to creativity, even if it didn’t seem obvious at the time; and every decision and step I took was what needed to happen at that time in my life.
For example, I always immersed myself in performative arts as a kid. I found plays and musicals to audition for, wrote music alone in my room, linked up with people with similar interests. I had even made a decision to go to CU Boulder when I was a senior in college, but then found out about Belmont University in Nashville (a music/entertainment industry school), and took the risk to change my plans entirely to follow my dream. I went to Nashville in hopes of finding my way musically, but it ended up not being a fit. I was hesitant to leave because it felt like giving up, but my heart was pulling me to Colorado, so I wound up in Boulder. It took me about 10 years of living out here to get a solid music project off the ground. I’ve caught myself in negative thoughts around the topic like, “just hitting the scene in my 30s? what took me so long?”, but again, when I look back I see all the trying and navigating and effort that I was putting forth all along, it just took that much time for everything to line up.
So yes, I do catch myself wishing I started sooner, but living my heart’s true desires right now feels so good that I am working on just being appreciative and excited about the future, and having gratitude for the path that led me here.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been writing songs since I was 8 years old. I tried many routes to find my way in music including open mics, coffee shop gigs, singing backup for other artists, recording covers for social media, but what I have always wanted was to collaborate with other musicians and create something uniquely ours. My favorite part about making music is bringing an idea to the band (Mountain Rose) and working on it together; watching it grow into something bigger than me with the help of everyone’s talents.
What sets me apart from others? Well, I’d be lying if I said I never compared myself and felt that imposter syndrome creeping in. There are an endless amount of better singers out there, better songwriters, better performers, but I do believe that my unique essence and voice have a place in music. I am tremendously proud of the music I make and believe it is potent and meaningful. We all have unique perspectives and stories to be told, and I love that I get to tell my stories through art.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That there is one right way to make your dreams come true! When I went off to college in Nashville I was under the impression that if it didn’t work out, that was basically the end of the road for me. What I have loved about living in Boulder since day one is that this town has shown me that there are endless ways to live a life and be successful. Yes people have standard 9-5’s here, but there are also tons of entrepreneurs, small business owners, healers, musicians, and it feels right. Growing up I was only exposed to “be the top of your class in high school> go to good college > move to the city and work in business/finance” and deep down I knew that wasn’t my path.
I have been tremendously inspired by the Colorado music scene. I have been able to watch my peers and other musicians build careers outside of the old trope “move to big city, get discovered, record deal, etc.” and it has been inspiring and educational.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and mission are ever evolving but right now it comes down to building a life that I love and that feels authentic, while keeping an open mind and trusting that I have this dream for a reason
