Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samantha Chaney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samantha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Starting at a young age, I always had an interest in the beauty industry. My very first freelance job was a hair model for Matrix and I think that was the moment I knew I wanted to be a beauty professional. I was fascinated by how hair and makeup could transform someones appearance, and would purchase books dedicated to beauty icons such as the late Kevyn Aucoin, Whitey Snyder and many more. When I graduated high school, I was hired as a MUA for a photography studio and from there, I made a ton of connections.I met actress Farrah Forke, and worked with her for many years. She always encouraged me to pursue the industry further. I took some courses that focused on fine arts, specifically stage/film makeup, hair, and costume design. While in school, I began freelancing in the sales side of the beauty industry. I took on many freelance opportunities. Around the age of 27, I decided to tap into the hair side of the industry. Since then I’ve never looked back.
Samantha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So, I have been in the beauty industry for over 14 years, and behind the chair for almost 5. Hair and Makeup have been a passion of mine since a young age. I’ve worked with photographers, studios, freelanced and was an independent stylist as well. I specialize in precision cutting, blonding, vivids, and transformative services. I take great pride in learning new skills as often as I am able, this way I am multi-faceted in my craft. I believe that you should never put yourself in a singular category especially in the beauty industry. There is so much to explore, learn, and provide our guests. I feel what sets me apart as a stylist is my ability to listen and problem solve. I treat each guest like they’re the most important person in the room. I believe that self-care is the truest form of self-love. I strive to bring Fort Worth locals and it’s guest’s the best luxury services in the area with an unforgettable experience.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, It is becoming part of our guests lives. While we do provide them services, it’s more than that. We become their friends and confidants. We are there with them through major events such as graduations, weddings, job interviews, family events, important meetings, etc. To have the honor play such an important role in our guests lives is the most rewarding aspect of being hairstylist.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I recently went through a professional pivot. I was an Independent salon suite hairstylist, that is now working with a team again. It’s so far been the best decision I’ve made. Working alone isn’t meant for everyone. I feel for me I thrive when I can work around other creatives. There are more opportunities for education, feedback, and over all growth.
