We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Bonnett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Samantha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I am 100% happier as a business owner. I honestly had no idea how much owning my own business would affect certain aspects of my life. My mental health has been in such a better spot which is probably the number one thing that has changed that I never even considered. Although I do prefer working for my self (and my customers) I do occasionally long for the 9-5. Leaving all the problems of work and stress at work! Owning my business is like having a 24/7.


Samantha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sam! I started Fig & Bleu back in December of 2020. I create big beautiful Grazing Tables and charcuterie boards. Never heard of a Grazing Table? Think charcuterie board but the size of a table, or multiple tables in some cases.
I’ve always enjoyed entertaining for people I love. Unfortunately I have a very small family, Who (mostly) happen to be lactose intolerant, So I thought, why not take my love of “entertaining” and make it a business! I love exploring the local cheese counters for new fun flavors and pairings and sharing that with my customers.
I truly love what I do. I put a lot of thought into my ingredients and styling. I go for that ‘something special’. Some might think I take cheese too seriously, but I absolutely love making it look pretty! We eat with our eyes first right?
I think I am most proud of my business itself. I never thought this was something I would be able to do. It might sound silly. but my business and I have grown together, and I have learned so much other the years.


What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency, quality and passion. My number one concern is making my customer happy. To do that, I am providing a product that exceeds not only their expectations, but mine as well. My passion for my product and my customer helps fuel all the details that go into each board or Grazing Table.


Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
So Fig & Bleu actually does have a YouTube account! Although, I have been lacking in that department with posting how to videos, it does bring in revenue every month and is a new fun way for me to be creative. Making a simple ‘How to style Cheese” video is actually a lot of work despite styling cheese for almost 4 years now.
