We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Safeera a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Safeera, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started my cake business in 2015 and the following year, I introduced French macarons to my menu . While cakes picked up with orders , macarons were still slow at that point!
An event planner got in touch with me for a collab in 2021 for hand-painted macarons . That was the turning point for my macaron art and its unique form.
Safeera, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Safeera , a mom of three, moved to the US from India in 2010. I had absolutely no baking skills until 2014. I learned how to bake from watching tv shows such as the barefoot contessa and the pioneer woman . I’m a self-taught cake artist/ macaron artist.
While I will still make cakes occasionally, my focus is on French macarons as I include each macaron with a unique watercolor art, namely florals.
Clients appreciate the uniqueness to these petite cookies. They are gluten free and the best ingredients are used to make the final product.
I’m very confident and proud about my baked artisanal goodies.
I’ve had some accomplishments where I’ve made big orders for corporate events such as Amazon, Nordstrom .
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Instagram played a very important role in my business. I would say 80% of my clients came through instagram . Good pictures and videos attract customers. Stories is another way to inform clients about upcoming pop ups, markets etc
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My business has had its ups and downs . Consistency is the key to go higher and higher but with life/family , sometimes I’ve had long stretches of breaks and that hurts my business.
I know my niche is in art , and now I’m venturing out in other directions to grow my business in digital form.
