We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sabrina Martin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sabrina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My business started off as a idea with a friend for a childrens boutique. My original name was AX Boutique and that was the initials to our kids middle names. Over time, the idea changed and I decided to start selling shoes but still under that name. The price for shoes in bulk was so expensive. And since I was a new business, I was scared they wouldn’t sell. So I switched to womens clothing. Over time the name changed to Shop AXB and now as of September, 2022 we are The Wk•End Boutique.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey y’all hey! I am SaBrina Martin but I am known as Bri. I am the owner of a women’s boutique here in Cincinnati, Ohio formerly known as Shop AXB but we are now The Wk•End Boutique.
I started selling clothes online and out the trunk of my car. Meeting customers in parking lots of other businesses. Overtime I have expanded and I now have a store front in the heart of Mt. Healthy. Hard work, consistency and a lot of dedication got me to this point in my journey as a entrepreneur. And I definitely have to give a lot of praises to my wonderful customers. They definitely helped me make it happen.
My customers have became family to me. They come in and tell me their plans for the weekend, give me updates on their kids, share good news with me and some even vent to me. I try to make my encounters with my customers personable and a vibe. Letting them know hey this is a safe space. Some will come in for a pick up and stay for hours just talking to me. They know the couch in the store is for them if they need me in anyway and I love that for us! Us as women need that some time. So why not come in get a outfit to help make you look beautiful and come in and vent if you need to and you walk out the door feeling and looking amazing!
I am so proud of my growth as a business and business woman. 6 years later we are making strides towards great things and we will continue to grow and be a positive influence not only in the women we service but also the community.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The way I built my audience on social media is by putting up inventory I had coming or thought about getting and asking them if they liked it or not. Or just asking for general feedback. This opened the floor to my customers and potential customers to have a say so in what they wanted from me. Till this day, I still do that. I give them the chance to vote on different pieces of inventory, ask them what colors they want, etc. And they love it!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
CONSISTENCY! That’s it and that’s all! I tell people all the time people do not have to know who you are. You just have to be consistent. They see you even when you think they don’t. I could post something and it may not get many likes BUT you’ll go to my website and that same item is sold out. Even if something is slow in the beginning, it will not be like that forever! GREAT THINGS TAKE TIME! And it will get better but you have to be patient and believe that. Be consistent and don’t let up!
