Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ruby Steenkamp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ruby, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
It all birthed from the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. I had lost my job, as an Accountant in March 2020, because the corporate office moved some of the financial positions to their Virginia head-office. My position and role was one of them. During that year I had personally experienced a huge shift within myself. It was a time of healing and rediscovery. One of the major recoveries was my spiritual gift of Trance Channeling – it’s connecting with energies and relating their messages like a radio signal. Being raised in an evangelical church, I was taught to connect spiritually, and I started to show my gifts at the age of 12 – I was known as a “young prophet.” During the pandemic that gift resurfaced, and it hit me that I the prophecies I shared when I was young was actually channeling. Some call it psychic abilities. During the pandemic I was getting messages for friends and strangers, and these were messages that responded to their prayers or thoughts that was never shared with me before. I had realized how impacting and necessary it was to relay those messages for those individuals during such a tourmolious time. Messages of hope, love and guidance. This was a beautiful experience for me personally, as it brought me such joy seeing others so happy from the messages they would receive. I then decided to share this publicly, and signed up for a holistic event and offered readings with trance channeled messages. That was a huge step for me as I was not sure if I would be able to get messages on demand. It was a total success – I ended up doing 22 sessions, all with channeled messages at that 2 day event. That’s when I was inspired with the name “Light Messenger, Ruby” – I felt and still feel like a messenger for energies/beings of love and light. The following two years I gradually continued to offer that gift as a service, and did my Usui Reiki Certification to Reiki Master Teacher. In the beginning of 2024 I felt to really put myself out there – I launched my website, used social media to promote my services, and I made Facebook and YouTube videos, and I engaged in virtual/podcast videos being interviewed and doing Trance Channeling on other hosts’ channels. Then in June 2024 I started offering Reiki classes, too. During 2020, and through to 2023 I was working as an Accountant, but I was struggling because I could not completely follow my heart’s desire – I over loaded my self with my 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday job, and doing my spiritual services in the evenings and weekends. Needles to say, it caught up with me physically. I was literally forced out of my secular job in October 2023 to focus on my health. Ever since I’ve been working on my health and following my dreams. My health has improved, and my spiritual service business has expanded. I have been blessed with clients that resonate with me and my services within my community of Pueblo, CO and further – including out-of-state. I do continue to work at a secular job, part-time to help pay my bills, while my dreams continues to grow. I love what I do, do what I love. The key is, in my perspective, is to pursue your heart’s desires and dreams.

Ruby, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I connected with other like minded individuals, service providers, and businesses by attending functions and events that are related to holistic and metaphysical platforms. I too volunteer at a monthly event in Pueblo, CO where a bunch of local energy workers and intuitive guides get together at the Rawlings Library, to offer their gifts and services, for free, to the public. It’s called the FREE Self-Care Event. It’s on the first Saturday of every month. I also own a social profile which is called “Enlightened Journey” – I use it to connect like minded communities, small businesses and service providers. EJ hosts and co-hosts events, such as, The Collective Self-Care Events, a market type of event with local vendors and service providers, mainly in the holistic and metaphysical market. My main intentions with what I do is bringing healing awareness to all, starting with my community. Healing can range from emotional to physical, and it starts within ourselves. This concept was inspired by one of my trance channeled messages. To cause a healing ripple effect, and in a global scale, it starts with me, it starts within each individual. This is why I was led to do Reiki. Other than just offering Trance Channeled messages, and too offer Reiki sessions with accompanied messages. The messages I relay are healing and encouraging. The energies or beings that I channel are of love and light, and of good intentions, such as guides, higher selves, soul groups, The Galactic Federation of Light, Mother Earth/Gaia, Celestial Beings, and loved ones that have crossed-over. I set energetic boundaries, blocking anything that is negative, or with ill intentions. I am not a fortune teller, even though my messages do bring clarity, and prophetic information. I also work with angelic beings. I am accessible via my website, www.lightmessengerruby.com and email [email protected]. to get an idea of how a trance channel, I have videos on YouTube and Facebook – Light Messenger, Ruby:

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth/reviews, social media, and networking. Exposure of service is vital. I would do occasional free or discounted sessions. Accessibility is very important, using platforms where a client can reach you or your business, such as a user friendly website, or social media profile. It is important to be upfront and honest with the services you offer. Do not make statements or commitments you cannot back up or keep to. Be very clear as to what you or your business offers.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I personally believe in what I do, and that makes it easier to genuinely represent without being fictitious. I do not make promises or commitments that I know I cannot fulfill. I make a priority of my obligations. If I say I will do something, I do it. Yet there are days that I feel energetically low, and I would rather be honest and reschedule an appointment with my client than give them a mediocre session. Luckily, that is seldom, but life does happen. I always confirm appointments by a followup call/text/message at least 24 hours prior and I always respond to all correspondence or missed calls from the client. Even if I am booked up, I will always get back to a new client to inform them, and if they are not able to wait for an opening, than I will gladly refer them to someone that I highly recommend. This is where networking becomes handy. I know many talented individuals that offer similar services, and I happily refer them when I am not able to meet a client’s request. Those individuals have in return referred clients to me too. I personally believe that small businesses should be open to sharing leads, or at least guide a client in the right direction – a client will have such a positive impression of you, and if they don’t need your services, they will definitely refer someone to you who does.
