We were lucky to catch up with Ruben Ramirez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ruben, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?

The beginning is such an important part of your creative path. It will humble you; have you question yourself and will make you soul search more than ever. Pursuing acting 3 hours away from a hot destination was a big challenge for myself as I was couch surfing and dead broke. I was throwing all the money I had in my gas tank. In the beginning, you put yourself out there for the main purpose to network and build your resume. I would get excited to see food as a compensation as at least I knew I was going to eat that day. I will say that I did not necessarily have a peace of mind til as of recent. I figured out ways to use my platforms to create funds so that pursuing this became easier. I was able to invest in recording gear and classes which elevates this passion.

Ruben, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Being an Actor, you see everything! Being a part of a pre-production is exciting as you see how the story develops over time. Then when the shoot date comes, you see everyone in their own element. You see how important teams are and how everyone’s role is very important to any production. It inspired me to develop my own teams so we may create more projects. I became inspired to also become a film director in which has actually helped a ton in my acting world as well as you are able to see it from their end as well. Producing projects is also fun but hard work. Many do not understand the strengths you have to have in order to be a “good” producer let alone a “great” one! Starpower Film Company was born when I simply quit waiting for opportunities and started creating them. One of the best decisions I have ever made. It helped me grow as a filmmaker and artist!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

“Hollywood” or BUST! I unlearned that pretty quickly as other markets began to grow and develop. The simple goal was to ACT…it does not have a certain location. I enjoy being in front of a camera anywhere! If you are acting in a project, YOU ARE AN ACTOR! No longer “aspiring”….YOU ARE DOING IT!!!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

Being able to tell a story. I think bringing something to life is always a beautiful event and also being thee story teller/performer is even better!
