We were lucky to catch up with Rosanna Bermejo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rosanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Despite having always wanted to be a business owner, deciding to be one was a very risky decision by itself. You are never truly aware of what such decision entails. When I opened MedAestheticsMiami, I had already made previous unsuccessful attempts at opening a business. I started MedAestheticsMiami while I was going through one of those turning moments in life. I had relatively young children, and was going through a divorce. Despite my professional experience, I had been working part time in order to have time to take care of my kids, so I had essentially been out of the workforce. Furthermore, these two little kids were dependent on me. My options were to get a job or create one for myself. However, I have never been one to settle or take the easy route. Initially, I subleased a space at a doctor’s office. It was me, myself and I. To complicate matters, I had to wear all hats. However, with perseverance and resilience, I made it past the small business survival threshold. After twelve years, we now have two locations: Coral Gables and Aventura. I am glad I took the risk.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Rosanna graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Economics and continued on to obtain her MBA at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After many years learning about the logistics of business in Fortune 500 Companies, Rosanna decided that she preferred to bring out her passion to the world and put all those years of corporate experience together into her own business. Her desire was to help people feel better in their own skin with aesthetics procedures that start from the inside to the outside. She initially started working in a medical office and continued on to pursue additional licenses and certifications in skin care, laser hair removal, body wrapping, and more. Subsequently, she obtained a Registered Nurse Degree (RN), and a Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) the summer of 2021. Med Aesthetics Miami has expanded to a boutique center with locations in Coral Gables and Aventura. Our customers come from many corners within Florida, and other states. We take pride in the quality of services offered, and in our desire to go the extra mile to achieve our clients’ goals. Our team provides only the best, and is well suited to provide our services. Rosanna is in charge of bringing in the latest in technology and research, as well as treatments. Rosanna is also an active member of: Dermatology Nurses Association International Society of Plastic and Aesthetics Nurses Board Member of the Florida Council of Electrolysis The American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I know resilience is a buzzword, but it is totally true. It is only with resilience, perseverance, a stern desire, and focus that we are able to reach our goals. There are many examples throughout history that demonstrate this, and my business is no exception. It is this burning desire and passion that will guide us through the toughest decisions to make the right choices. This, in turn, will stimulate our minds. I believe in the power of the mind, and this power will increase our awareness such that when the right opportunities knock on our door, we are able to recognize them and accept them. For this a clear vision is necessary. This vision can be fine tuned through meditation. Last but not least, being on top of your business is very important. While we are told to delegate, and the importance of having the right team, we always need to know what is happening in our businesses. In this sense, while many believe they can hire talent, in my case, I wanted to be able to direct talent. As a result, when I started my business, I decided to learn all aspects of it, so that I could manage it entirely
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I will never forget when I started my business, that I had to juggle all tasks, since it was a one person show. My weeks entailed over 80 hours of work, in addition to furthering my training and education by pursuing a BSN. My decision had resulted in a significant pay cut and there was no light at the end of the tunnel. To complicate matters, my children were relatively young and dependent on me. All my friends were trying to push me to get a corporate job, since that was the logical decision at the moment; yet I knew I was meant to be a business owner. My motto had always been to consider the long run over the short run, when making important decisions. Had I given up, I would have not have made it so far. Thanks to my resilience, MedAestheticsMiami has now two locations in Coral Gables and Aventura, and has been around for twelve years.
