We recently connected with Rosa Birks and have shared our conversation below.
Rosa, appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Hi, thank you for having me! Yes I manage my own social media and I enjoy doing so. Because I have experienced so many professional environments where the work culture requires ‘clicking in and out’ I wanted my new career to allowed me to be myself.
My social media is a space for me to be creative and authentic. One day, I would love to have a team to help me with his, but I don’t desire to let go of managing it completely. My social media platforms are full of my clients, customers, and supporters – it is a look into who they are investing in and who they are cheering on – I want them to know exactly who I am. I want them to relate to me and know that I am very similar to who they are. I guess you can say managing my social media is my way of intentionally building a community.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rosa Birks, I am a former Educator with a Master’s in Counseling with an initial focus in Mental Health. I am now a full time entrepreneur, I own and operate a beautiful boutique in Nettleton, MS , Simplicity. Simplicity offers all things home, from home staging, home styling, and home decor. When I’m not finding Simplicity for others, I am a devoted wife to my husband JJ Birks and mother to my two beautiful children, Tember and Enin.
I am most proud of my obedience to God, for the first time in my life I feel aligned with my purpose. I love helping a client’s house become a home. I love helping people find gifts for others. I love being a licensed vendor for my sorority, and carrying gifts for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I love being my own boss and being available to my family when they need me most.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My business partner is my husband. We currently own 3 commercial properties, rehab residential properties, build new constructions, and so much more. He will always be the love of my life, my husband, Mr. AlwaysKeepItRealtor himself, Jamison Birks.
We met as high school students. We didn’t become a couple until our college days, but we were always the best of friends, and that still rings true today. JJ has always encouraged me to show the world who I am, and to be confident in my talent. I love to joke and say he shoved me into entrepreneurship, but the truth is it was all out of love. He saw something in me I’d been denying for a long time. I am grateful for his love and faith in my artistic gift. Together our brands Simplicity and AlwaysKeepItRealtor have also married and have become AlwaysKeepItSimple, where we work on investment properties and have started a YouTube channel named, AlwaysKeepItSimple.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I still have a long way to go when creating brand awareness and building my audience on social media, but I’m working at it everyday. I think being authentic, inviting people to be a part of your truth, always being transparent with those investing in your journey is most important. During these times we love to make all of those little squares look perfect on the internet, but lives aren’t as perfect as photographs or videos may seem. I say share the beauty of your life – include the imperfections, the highs, lows, wins and losses. People invest in people, not products. Building a community is hard, but I want everyone to Find Simplicity through simple styling tips I share, being encouraged by my leap of faith, and allowing the audience to witness a young black couple doing all the things – together- and with God’s grace.
