We were lucky to catch up with Ronnie Ann Ryan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ronnie Ann thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
I love this question! I’m very lucky and my parents were very good to me. One of the things that really stands out is how they taught me to ask for what I want. They said the worst thing that can happen is you get told no. But maybe you’ll hear “Yes!” That alone has served me amazingly well over the years.
There have been so many situations when I got up my courage and just asked for what I wanted and then got it! This is true for salary, friendship, love, and more. Be brave and just ask! What’s the worst that can happen? I share this with all my clients because this can make a big difference in how life goes.
For example, I had a freelance job and I asked for $150/ hour back in 1999. I had never made that kind of money but the company agreed to it! This allowed me to buy my first home.
It reminds me of Wayne Gretzky’s quote “You’ll miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” My advice is to ask for what you want – its the fastest path to getting it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Today I am an Intuitive Life Coach and Wise Woman who guides women over 50 to reignite their inner magic and wisdom. Sometimes during midlife, women lose track of their sparkle or feel like there should be more to life. That’s where I come in.
My career has taken many turns starting as Advertising Art Director, to Marketing Consultant, to Dating Coach, and now my focus is on intuition and magic.
Since my 20’s I studied esoteric methods and philosophies, alongside whatever else I was doing. I became a Reiki Master and began honing my intuition which is now my main focus. I’ve gathered all sorts of wisdom and knowledge that I share with my clients. It’s quite an amalgam!
Given everything I’ve learned on this path, the one thing that has helped the most is learning to use, trust, and rely on my inner knowing. There have been times when something “on paper” looks ideal, but my gut knew better. It has never steered me wrong. Not once.
I’m a big believer in magic, but maybe not the kind that comes to mind. To me magic is about energy, focus, and expectations. It’s about noticing signs, experiencing synchronicities and following sublte nudges that are there to guide you. Maybe you can see how my parents teaching about asking for what I want has factored into this.
When you trust yourself and your inner knowing, you are in the energy flow. Magic is a big part of that and is actually all around you, if you are open to seeing it. Here’s a perfect example of how to harness this energy – Be open to the possibility that there are positive outcomes no matter what is happening. Of course, make smart choices and take care of yourself, But when you are open to positive outcomes, so much more is possible!
People often limit themselves by imagining the worst or seeing outcomes they don’t want. Your thoughts and imagination are quite powerful. This is also magic, but not working the way you might hope. So, focus on what you DO want. Then, magic is the Universe responding in your favor!
My clients have manifested amazing things following this concept. From landing big clients, to selling a financial planning practice, to finding love and more. Plus, magic is FUN. You can learn and grow from a place of joy, fun and being light-hearted. It’s no longer necessary to slog through complicated processes with multiple steps. I love keeping it simple and that works.
In addition, I share a lot about my spiritual journey and the magical tools that help me in my podcast Breathe Love & Magic which can be found on the regular podcast platforms.

Have you ever had to pivot?
My marketing consulting and freelance business was booming and then one day changed everything. On 9/11/2001, the terrorist attack changed the corporate landscape dramatically. Many companies slashed their marketing budgets and suddenly my work dried up. Thankfully, I felt the time was right to shift and I looked for what to do next.
A friend suggested that I consider life coaching as my next career path. I started coaching school in 2002 and never looked back. It’s been an amazing journey. Not easy mind you, but so much opportunity to learn and grow. And within the coaching business I’ve also pivoted several times, seeking the best angle and message.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At the start of my dating coaching business, I was struggling to get clients. Then I met a local matchmaker and we did a great event together. He reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in heading up a new matchmaking office for him in my town. I was SO excited. I thought this was exactly what I needed because I could help clients find dates and coach them into finding lasting love. How perfect!
He said he’d call me the following week. He did but put off our conversation until the next week. And then that happened two times so a month went by. I got a bad feeling about this. My intuition told me that if I worked for him, he’d never be availalbe to help me or answer questions.
When he finally called to talk about the opportunity, I passed, saying I’d had time to think about things and it wasn’t for me. Later, I met the women he did hire to open and run the office. She complained how he was never around and abandoned her, often leaving her to figure everything out herself. My intuition was spot on.
Fast forward to five years later, the owner was arrested for fraud and his business was closed down. Thankfully, I missed out on all the drama by listening to my gut.
Here’s how I thought about this experience. If I had to figure everything out on my own, I might as well continue to work for myself! Throughout my career I’ve had to be very resillient as the landscape changed. You can’t move forward without the ability to recover and reinvent. Today, as a small business owner, the market and tactics change so quickly, there’s a constant need to be able to pivot quickly.
