Hi Rolexis, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

Honestly, the idea for HMUA Agency came from a genuine passion for making the beauty industry better. Stephanie and I first met on a creative project, and from that moment, we just clicked. Our styles, our visions, and our love for this craft just aligned naturally. It was during that collaboration that we realized how powerful it could be to bring together talented, dedicated makeup artists & hair stylist under one trusted umbrella. We saw an opportunity to create a space where clients could feel confident that they’re getting top-tier, personalized beauty services from professionals who truly care. Another thing that sparked us was observing how many people struggled to find reliable, skilled artists! Even though there are so many talented people out there. But finding someone who’s not only talented but also professional, dependable, and able to really understand your vision? That was often a challenge. We felt strongly that we could solve this by carefully selecting the best artists, ensuring quality every step of the way, and providing a seamless, enjoyable experience for clients who deserve that level of excellence. This idea is deeply personal for us. It’s not just about makeup and hair, it’s about building trust, community, and celebrating our true artistry. That’s what makes our business idea so meaningful and unique to us.

Stephanie’s Journey:
Stephanie’s story begins with a love for transformation and self expression. With over 12 years of experience and a rich multicultural background, she’s traveled the world honing her craft in England, New Zealand, and Brazil. Born in the USA, she’s fluent in English and Portuguese, and conversational in Spanish, which helps her connect with diverse clients. Her work spans a wide spectrum from high-fashion runway looks to bridal beauty, TV and film, corporate events, and even cosplay and character makeup. Stephanie’s goal is always to bring her clients’ visions to life with professionalism, warmth, and a touch of artistry. What sets her apart is not just her technical skill, but her genuine passion for making people feel beautiful and confident.

Rolexis’s Journey:
Born in the USA, at the beginning of Rolexis career, she was focusing on working in TV/Film as an Actress, but her passion for beauty took hold when she decided to pursue the world of Cosmetology. Over the past 15 years, she’s become a versatile artist in TV/film, bridal, ball-room, high-fashion run-way, and the corporate world, blending her analytical mind with her innate creativity. Her travels around the world, working with fellow artist, models, designers, and photographers, continually inspire her to push boundaries and incorporate diverse cultural influences into her work. Rolexis’s mission is to inspire confidence and celebrate individual beauty. She believes beauty is a powerful tool for self empowerment, and her work reflects a fusion of technical precision and cultural richness. Her approach is inclusive, supportive, and always rooted in love.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Stephanie’s Resilience:

Starting out was definitely not a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I faced was financial. At the time, I was living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the makeup industry there was very different from what we are used to here in the USA. Brands that are affordable and easily accessible here in the U.S. were very expensive in Brazil, which made it difficult to build my kit and invest in the tools I needed to get started. That was a huge struggle, especially since makeup artistry wasn’t as widely respected or seen as a viable career at the time.

But despite these obstacles, I stayed focused on my passion and kept pushing forward. I made the most of what I had, often getting creative with alternatives and working within a tight budget. Over time, as my skills grew and I gained more confidence in my work, the opportunities started to come, and things began to shift. I’m grateful for the challenges I faced, as they taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the importance of perseverance in pursuing something you truly love.

Rolexis’s Resilience:

There was a time when a “no” felt heavy, making me question if my dreams in the beauty world were too bold. But deep down, I realized rejection wasn’t the end of the road, it was a redirection. Slowly but surely, doors began to open, not because I waited for permission, but because I dared to create my own path by the grace of God.

I started building, collaborating, honing my craft, and staying true to my vision. Every setback taught me something, and every no pushed me to grow stronger. Today, I’m proud to say that resilience turned those rejections into my motivation. I’m just getting started.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

Stephanie and I actually met at a wedding where we were both hired separately by the bride. I was doing hair, and she was doing makeup. We hit it off instantly! There was just this natural chemistry and vibe between us. We started chatting more during the event, and it became clear we definitely shared similar values, energy, and a passion for what we do. That moment sparked the beginning of a great partnership, and from there, our collaboration grew into what it is today.
