Rolando, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Amapola is a legendary brand of natural Latin-food products established in Los Angeles and it has been serving its customers for over 62 years. Amapola is the most popular “Masa” brand in California, and it has served generations of loyal customers to prepare traditional tamales.
The Mission of Amapola is to produce the best fresh and authentic Latin products, to bring joy to our customers and their families through our food, and to be a great workplace for our team members to thrive and enjoy every day.

• AMAPOLA IS A FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS AND A LEGENDARY BRAND OF NATURAL NON-GMO CORN PRODUCTS ESTABLISHED IN LOS ANGELES. WE HAVE BEEN SERVING OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND COMMUNITY FOR OVER 62 YEARS.
• AMAPOLA MARKET HAS BEEN A CORNERSTONE OF THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING TOP-QUALITY LATIN FOOD PRODUCTS.
• WE SPECIALIZE IN NON-GMO CORN PRODUCTS, INCLUDING MASA, TAMALES, AND TORTILLAS, AND HAVE RECENTLY EXPANDED OUR PRODUCT LINE TO INCLUDE NATURAL JUICES, SALSAS, DESSERTS, DRY CHILIES, AND OTHER LATIN FOOD ESSENTIALS, ALONG WITH OUR TRADITIONAL CARNITAS AND MEXICAN DELI OFFERINGS.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I am a serial entrepreneur, engineer and finance professional. I acquired Amapola Market in March of 2021 with the commitment of maintaining and expanding a longstanding Latin brand. As a Mexican national, I had the opportunity to lead a longstanding Hispanic brand that is so important for many families across Los Angeles and Southern California.
In my prior career, I was an investment banker working for the largest firms on Wall Street representing businesses across many industries. I became very interested in Amapola Market and switched my careers to become a business owner due to its immense brand recognition and opportunities we have in the Latin food industry. My role with Amapola Market allows me to give back to our Hispanic communities and provide the very best of our Latin food heritage to our customers.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Many people who know Amapola very well, including our suppliers, say to us that instead of Customers, we have Followers, who are loyal to our Company, and we have a commitment to give them the very best flavors from Amapola. Each of our team members help us portray and share a piece of their family heritage and culture through our food. Many of them have worked for decades at our company and are committed to deliver the most authentic products and our customers know that they won’t find these products anywhere else.
