We were lucky to catch up with Robin Tucker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Robin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Here’s my definition of success:
As I’ve embarked upon this entrepreneurial journey, one of the most important things I’ve learned is that you must have mentors. Not just one, but many for various aspects of your life, business and/or career. I personally believe you should have a spiritual/life coach mentor, business mentor and financial mentor. Having several mentors give you targeted advice/perspective. It also keeps you accountable in various areas.
One of the best resources I found for business mentorship is the SCORE organization (https://www.score.org/ ). SCORE provides free business mentoring services and educational workshops to entrepreneurs and small-business owners in your local area.
Additionally, you must have “community”. Community for me is a designated group of like-minded individuals who are looking to achieve and grow towards the same goals/accomplishments. The community must ensure growth by continually challenging the members to stretch their knowledge and apply their knowledge through action.
Always surround yourself with those that can push your farther into greatness. If you’re the smartest person in your circle, find another circle, where you aren’t so you can grow. You should always be looking for the next level of growth and opportunity to be challenge. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
Be a life-long leaner. Your business or company is in constantly growing and changing. Are you keeping up with new technology and marketing techniques? Are you embarking on new trainings or certifications to remain relevant? What you did 5 years ago, is probably not going to attract the same clientele. You must stay in a constant mode of learning. Yes, that means reading! Take time to research what’s going on in your industry. What are those who are successful doing? Success leaves clues. We must keep evolving as the world changes.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I decided to start my business in 2004 in my home state of Arkansas, I was “in between” opportunities. It started as an Engineering Consulting company (as per my background). I didn’t do much with it initially, as I found full-time employment only a few months later and moved to Tennessee. Time went by, life happened and then we all found ourselves in the middle of a pandemic. It was in 2021 that I decided to re-vamp my company, Wilson Consulting, LLC. (still working full-time) and do the work I was passionate about, working with business professionals to enhance their online presence and visibility and provide information/resource to ensure growth.
Wilson Consulting, LLC. is a “Resource Connection” Consultancy connecting people with information and possibilities. The mission of the company is to engage business professionals through the power of sharing ideas and experiences. We have 20+ years of Professional Networking and Business Consulting experience. We connect B2B and B2C with information, professional networking, and information resource services. Our services include LinkedIn Optimization, Resume critique and Professional Networking Development. Our vision is to bring quality resources to business professionals providing knowledge transfer & innovative solutions.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I revamped my business during Covid. During a time where there was so much uncertainty, The need to connect people with information was vital. A great percentage of the work force was working remotely and the need for career/job prep was at an all time high. Covid us showed us not only how to “pivot” in work spaces, but also the need for true work/life balance.
I too, was impacted by the “pivot” and was able to reflect on the state of my own life and career. In addition to working full time, I shifted my mindset to “what’s next” for me and the decision to re-start the business developed.
I’ve always loved networking, connecting and providing people with information. It’s something that I’ve done for years. The passion to help and “give back” comes from my family.
Being an entrepreneur has been in my blood line from an early age. My family owned a funeral home in Morrilton, Arkansas for 40+ years, and my dad owned multiple business, including a janitorial/carpet cleaning service, and a videography service. My mom is a retired schoolteacher and ran the Funeral Home when my dad passed in 1995. We sold the business in 2021. I was taught the value of hard work, honesty, and character. Working in the business allowed me to learn and provide customer service to the families we served. It also showed me the value of building a brand that people trust. People do business with those they know, like and trust. Many life lessons were shared as it related to understanding people and the financial aspects of the business. It also taught me that over time, trends and technology must be embraced to remain consistent.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As an entrepreneur, it takes Boldness to step out on faith to fulfill your God-given destiny and vision. This is not for the faint of heart. You must be able to overcome fear and catapult your faith/belief to the next level. Boldness also takes courage. Courage to speak up, courage to speak out and courage to stand on your morals and ethics. Your business idea may be totally new and cutting edge. You must be bold and confident to walk the journey through. Boldness is also about leadership. Some of the greatest leaders I’ve seen are bold and confident in their stance, demeanor, and action.
You also must be outstanding in every area of your life and every endeavor you pursue. This means having a level of accountability. Being outstanding means excellence in your personal and professional brand, outstanding in integrity and character, always presenting your best (authentic) self. It means to monitor what you post, say, and write, as it can have a direct reflection on the business or company represented. It means defining standards of what you will and won’t do and not settling for mediocrity. To own outstanding also means that you’re a trendsetter, a forerunner, and forward thinker.
