We were lucky to catch up with Robert Silver recently and have shared our conversation below.
Robert, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Before the pandemic, I had been studying energy medicine and energy practices for about four or five years. At that time, I was working as a personal trainer for someone else, earning a weekly paycheck. Despite my commitment to my professional career, I was also passionately learning and practicing energy work on the side. Although I enjoyed personal training, I became increasingly engaged with energy practices and mental health, integrating these techniques into my personal training sessions to provide clients with a balanced approach to physical and mental wellness.
Just before the pandemic hit, I had a strong feeling that I was about to lose my job. This premonition stemmed from my growing awareness of my energy and spirit. In response, I turned inward and asked myself what to do if I were to lose my job—something I had never experienced before. My spirit and energy guided me to pursue what I had always wanted: to work for myself and help people in the mental health field through energy work.
Taking this advice to heart, I began building my LLC, It’s Balanced. Remarkably, about a week or two later, the pandemic arrived, and I did lose my job. Fortunately, I had already established It’s Balanced, allowing me to focus on helping people with their mental health through energy work.
The transition was seamless and felt orchestrated by the universe. It created the perfect opportunity for me to start my own business and apply my skills to my own venture. My first client in this new chapter was a person struggling with fentanyl addiction. Through my guidance, I helped him achieve stability, balance, and self-love.
This journey over the past five or six years has been incredible, and I am grateful for the risk I took and the rewards it has brought.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those unfamiliar with my services, I describe myself as an energy coach. By energy, I mean that everything in life starts with energy. Whether it’s labeled as emotions, stress, or masculine and feminine, at its core, it’s all energy. Through my practice of understanding energy, I’ve become deeply familiar with human behavior—how we move, why we move, and when we move the way we want to.
In my work, I’ve learned that whether someone is dealing with the emotional fallout of a 20-year relationship ending or battling an addiction that started in childhood, it all boils down to energy. By helping people through meditation and revisiting these emotional energy points in their lives, they can uncover and address things they had buried and avoided dealing with. Often, people bury their issues under food, alcohol, drugs, sex, or other imbalances to avoid confronting their most uncomfortable feelings.
In my practice, we create a safe, nurturing environment where we can delve deep into meditation and uncover the things we’ve been hiding and avoiding. With a supportive practitioner guiding them, clients can revisit these buried issues in a way that prevents them from continuously resurfacing and causing imbalance and unhealthiness.
In short, I offer guided qi gong meditations and Reiki sessions to help people balance the energies they often neglect. This approach allows them to live healthier, more balanced lives.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Growing up in Baltimore, I had no idea what energy medicine or energy practices were. I followed a traditional path, going to college and earning a degree in sociology. This led to a corporate job where I was doing well for myself. However, I grew increasingly unhappy with the corporate world, frustrated by management decisions and policies I didn’t support but had to follow.
I always dreamed of creating something of my own. After going through a divorce, I sought therapy, where I was introduced to the practice of qigong. This practice taught me how to notice and feel my emotions, helping me uncover and address them rather than reacting impulsively. Before this, I often reacted to life without understanding my emotions, leading to dishonest behaviors and infidelity in relationships.
The therapy sessions were transformative, showing me the value of being aware of my energy and emotions. I realized I wanted to delve deeper into these practices and share them with others. Combining this newfound knowledge with my background in personal training, I began training people to pay attention to their energy through meditation, Reiki, and other practices.
This journey has been incredible, and it’s a testament to my resilience. Despite having family, friends, and loved ones who had little understanding of energy practices, I left the corporate world to create a business centered around these principles. The only support I had was my own energy, and it proved to be enough. This experience underscores my resilience, showing that I could rely on my own strength and vision to pursue my passion and help others.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely, I would choose the same practice if I had to do it all over again. Throughout the process, there were countless moments where I questioned myself, wondering if I was on the right path or if what I was doing was even real. Each day, I received affirmations that this was indeed real and meaningful, which encouraged me to keep going. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. My resilience and perseverance through every challenge have been crucial in shaping my profession. These experiences have equipped me to teach and guide others through their own challenges. So, without a doubt, I would not change a single aspect of my journey.
