We were lucky to catch up with Robert Coleman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Robert, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I honestly wish I had started my creative career sooner. I got into content creation later than I probably needed to. I was really focused on building a stable, traditional career in the medical and lab field, working in structured environments and checking all the “responsible” boxes. At that time, creativity felt more like a side interest than something I could actually turn into a platform or a business.
Looking back, I realize I was already sitting on stories, perspectives, and experiences that people could have connected with much earlier. If I had started sooner, I think I would’ve grown into my voice faster, taken more risks, and been less concerned about how I was perceived. I also would’ve had more time to experiment and figure out what works without putting so much pressure on immediate results.
At the same time, starting when I did gave me something valuable, life experience. My background, my career, my relationships, all of that shapes the content I create now and makes it more grounded and real. So while I do wish I had started sooner, I can also appreciate that I didn’t start empty, I started with perspective.
If anything, that’s the takeaway for me, there’s no perfect time, but there is power in starting as early as you can and learning as you go.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Robert Coleman, a content creator, podcast host, and healthcare professional with a background in medical laboratory science. My career started in structured, high stakes environments like clinical labs and medical device testing, where precision, compliance, and accuracy were essential. I built a strong foundation there, but over time I realized I had another side of me that needed an outlet, one that was more creative, expressive, and community driven.
That realization led me into content creation and podcasting. I co created Hey MR., a platform where we have real and unfiltered conversations centered around relationships, identity, and the lived experiences of gay men navigating life, love, and family dynamics. What started as casual conversations grew into something much bigger, a space where people feel seen, heard, and understood.
What I offer lives at the intersection of storytelling and impact. Through my content, podcast, and brand collaborations, I create engaging and conversation starting media that resonates with audiences who do not always see themselves represented authentically. For brands and partners, I provide access to a loyal and engaged audience along with content that feels genuine and natural. I am not just promoting a product, I am creating moments and discussions that people genuinely care about.
What sets me apart is my ability to balance vulnerability with intention. I am willing to talk about uncomfortable and complex topics such as family acceptance, relationships, and personal growth in a way that invites conversation instead of division. My background in healthcare also gives me a level of discipline and consistency that carries into my creative work.
What I am most proud of is the community we are building. When people engage with our content and say they feel understood or less alone, that means everything to me. That is how I measure impact, not just by numbers, but by connection.
The most important thing I want people to know about me and my brand is that it is rooted in authenticity. I am not trying to present a perfect life, I am sharing a real one. My goal is to create content that entertains, challenges, and affirms people while bringing them closer to understanding themselves and each other.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the impact my story can have on other people, especially within the LGBT community. Being able to share my experiences openly and honestly creates space for others to feel seen, understood, and less alone in their own journeys.
A lot of what I talk about comes from real life, whether that is navigating relationships, family dynamics, or identity. When someone watches my content and realizes that their experience is valid or that they are not the only one going through something, that is what makes it all worth it. I have had people reach out and say that my story helped them process their own situation or gave them the confidence to have difficult conversations in their own lives.
That kind of connection is something I do not take lightly. It reminds me that creativity is not just about entertainment, it is also about influence and responsibility. For me, the most rewarding part is knowing that by simply being honest and showing up as myself, I can help other LGBT individuals feel more confident, more understood, and more comfortable in who they are.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my creative journey is very intentional. My goal is to create a space where people, especially within the LGBT community, feel seen, heard, and understood through real and honest conversations.
I want to normalize the experiences that often go unspoken, whether that is navigating family acceptance, relationships, identity, or personal growth. A lot of people carry these experiences in silence, and my mission is to bring those conversations to the surface in a way that feels relatable and authentic.
At the same time, I am building a brand that bridges impact and influence. I want to partner with brands and platforms in a way that still feels genuine to my audience, while also showing that creators can be both authentic and successful. Representation matters, and I want my work to reflect that you can show up fully as yourself and still build something meaningful.
Ultimately, my mission is to use my story as a tool to help others feel less alone, more confident in who they are, and more open to having the conversations that can change their lives.
