We recently connected with Robert Begley and have shared our conversation below.
Robert, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Speaking With Purpose LLC didn’t start with a big business plan—it started with a pattern I couldn’t ignore: people feared public speaking, and even when they spoke, most presentations were forgotten by the next day.
Once I had the idea—help people speak with purpose so their message actually lands—I took action fast. The very next step was testing it in real life: I began coaching people I already knew who had important talks coming up. Those early results proved two things: the problem was real, and the transformation was real.
From there, I built a simple, repeatable framework for hook, structure, persuasion, and delivery, then handled the practical launch steps—forming the LLC, clarifying my ideal clients, creating a clear offer, and starting consistent outreach through networking and referrals.
Over time, the business grew because I focused less on perfection and more on execution: coaching, refining the system, collecting wins, and building credibility as a coach and author.
California Business Journal called me “America’s leading moral character speaking coach.”

Robert, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Robert Begley, founder of Speaking With Purpose LLC, and I’m an Amazon best-selling author and Certified World Class Speaking Coach. I work with business leaders, executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals who want to become more confident, persuasive, and memorable communicators—especially when the stakes are high.
I got into this work after seeing a repeated pattern: most people fear public speaking, and even when they do speak, most presentations are forgotten by the next day. That’s a costly problem—because great ideas don’t spread, leaders don’t rise, teams don’t align, and opportunities are lost. I started Speaking With Purpose because I wanted to help people speak in a way that is not only confident and clear—but meaningful and unforgettable.
My work includes keynote and workshop training, executive coaching, and structured presentation programs. I help clients solve problems like:
• unclear messaging and rambling presentations
• “data dumps” that don’t persuade
• stage fright and lack of confidence
• poor structure and weak openings/closings
• sounding smart but not connecting emotionally
• failing to influence decisions, clients, or teams
What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach delivery tricks. I help people build communication from the inside out—using moral conviction, strong structure, and story, grounded in timeless persuasion tools like ethos, logos, and pathos. My clients don’t just become better presenters—they become clearer leaders.
I’m most proud of the real transformations: helping professionals who once avoided speaking become people who can walk into any room and communicate with calm confidence, credibility, and purpose. If someone remembers one thing about me and my brand, it’s this:
I help people become the kind of speaker whose message actually changes something. I’m also a keynote/motivational speaker and emcee.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes—what began as a side hustle became my full-time career.
I worked in nonprofits doing fundraising, and I saw firsthand that the people who could present clearly and confidently raised more money, earned more trust, and created bigger impact. More than ten years ago, I started coaching presentation skills on the side—helping colleagues and professionals prepare for key meetings, donor conversations, and speaking opportunities.
Over time, the results spoke for themselves. Referrals grew, demand increased, and I developed a repeatable coaching process around structure, storytelling, persuasion, and delivery. About three years ago, I made the leap and launched Speaking With Purpose LLC full-time. Today, I coach leaders and business owners to deliver presentations that are clear, persuasive, and unforgettable.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes—my life has been a series of pivots that all pointed back to one theme: finding my voice.
As a teenager, I thought I’d be a rockstar—I loved performance, but I feared public speaking. Since I still craved the spotlight, I pivoted into ballet dance. That taught me discipline and stage presence, but it also taught me reality: passion doesn’t always pay the rent in NYC.
So I pivoted again and built a stable career at Merrill Lynch, eventually becoming a data center manager. But leadership required more than competence—I had to communicate with authority. That led me to Dale Carnegie training and Toastmasters, which changed my confidence and direction. Those pivots ultimately led to my purpose: helping others speak with clarity, courage, and conviction.
