Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rickale West. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rickale , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on was the “Freedom To Dream” exhibition. I had the honor of curating and collaborating on this project as part of the planning team alongside the leadership at Montrose Grace Place. The exhibition showcased artwork created by Grace Place youth, along with submissions from local young artists. Our mission was to raise funds for Montrose Grace Place and foster creative entrepreneurship among youth, with 100% of art sales going directly to the participating artists.
Many of the pieces emerged from our Healing Through Art Workshops, held during the weekly Youth Night program in collaboration with Roxy Wuz Here Art. Watching the youth share their stories through color, movement, and symbolism, and witnessing their confidence grow each week, was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my creative practice.
Another deeply impactful project was the Healing Art Garden I designed and facilitated for the Melanin Minds 5th Annual Mental Health Conference. This art activation combined the grounding energy of nature with the restorative power of creative expression. At the center of the installation was an interactive painting of an open field, where guests were invited to add their favorite flower, or a flower that personally symbolized healing, peace, or joy.
As the conference unfolded, the field blossomed into a collective garden of intention, each added flower representing someone’s story, memory, or moment of softness. Watching participants pause, reflect, and contribute to a shared landscape of wellness was a powerful reminder of how art and nature together can create space for community healing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Rickale West, a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and creative wellness advocate based in Houston, Texas, and the founder of Roxy Wuz Here Art, a platform where art and healing intersect. My journey began with using art as a personal tool for restoration and self-discovery, which evolved into a mission to help others do the same.
Through Roxy Wuz Here Art, I create original fine art, curate exhibitions, and lead creative wellness workshops that encourage self-expression and community connection. My work explores themes of identity, transformation, and emotional resilience, using texture and symbolism to tell stories that heal and inspire.
What sets my practice apart is its blend of artistry and advocacy, every project is designed to make both a visual and emotional impact. I’m most proud of building a platform that uplifts emerging artists and youth, proving that creativity can truly transform lives.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is witnessing how creativity can shift energy and open hearts. Art has the power to heal, to spark dialogue, and to remind us that we’re not alone in our experiences. Whether through a painting, an exhibition, or a workshop, I’m most fulfilled when someone connects with the work and sees a piece of themselves reflected in it.
Being an artist isn’t just about creating something beautiful, it’s about creating something meaningful. Knowing that my art can serve as both expression and medicine, for myself and others, is what continues to make this journey worth it.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, the mission driving my creative journey is to use art as a tool for healing, connection, and empowerment. Through Roxy Wuz Here Art, my goal has always been to create work and experiences that encourage people to see themselves, to feel seen, and to begin their own process of restoration through creativity.
I believe art is medicine. It has the power to transform pain into purpose and reflection into growth. Every piece I create, every exhibition I curate, and every workshop I lead is rooted in that belief. My ultimate goal is to continue building spaces where art not only exists but also heals, teaches, and liberates.
