We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Richard Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Richard below.
Richard, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Typically, when a homeowner wants to build or renovate, they oftentimes, and understandably, go right to the builders, wave their hands around in the air explaining how they want a kitchen over here, add a bathroom over there, bump-out, pop-up, so on and so forth. Even the most brilliant builders are naturally going to lose a tremendous amount of information, accuracy, and expectations right into thin air. The builder builds what he or she knows best, and the homeowner hopes that they get what they wanted.
If only the homeowner had blueprints over which the team could huddle.
As Architects, we scratch our chins wondering why our profession is so hard to approach, Architects are perceived as being expensive, and time-consuming. This is when Taylor Workshop kicked off an innovative new venture called SketchHaus, aimed at serving clients who may not have otherwise hired an Architect. We are delivering feasible design solutions in a matter of days and we are doing it at a very economical rate.
Homeowners love the way we can visualize their wants and needs, and with drawings in hand, they can now bid the job to multiple builders and are not beholden to one. We have also been told numerous times by builders that they will prioritize a client who has drawings in hand because they can use those docs to bid out their own subcontractors with great accuracy. Everyone is getting apples-to-apples pricing which saves the client money in a huge way.
And because we are not incentivized to push you into construction, we fully welcome the tire kickers who just want to see if it’s more feasible to build or to buy…Or maybe just kick the project down the road when prices may be more favorable.
Our Architects are leveraging the latest technologies, with robust modeling software to find the hidden potential of your home. Give us a call today
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We started in 2011 as an Architectural firm, working primarily on residential and light commercial projects in Atlanta. Soon after, we picked up some work with some larger national brands which challenged us to evolve into more than just Architects. Today, we have become a multi-faceted design firm that helps businesses formalize conceptual ideas through digital graphics, AR/VR, graphic design, and prototyping!
We help our clients solve problems, validate or fail ideas faster and more economically, and we do this by leading and supporting them through a design process.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
SketchHaus by Taylor Workshop was created out of the pandemic. We struggled to keep afloat as all of our clients closed their doors, so we sat down as a team and identified a new type of client. ….The homeowner trying to figure out if it’s better to build, or to buy! Today we are serving 8-10 new projects every week, and have streamlined the process to make architecture more affordable, faster, and just simply more approachable.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
We are genuine and transparent. We say what we are going to do, and then we do it. Our agreement doesnt have any fine print, more importantly, its printed on our wesite for the world to see.
Our team of designers are creative, and efficient, we are very excited to discover the potential of your home!

Yes, this is a question for Richard. Have any of your clients ever felt intimidated by the super large human being you are?
