Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rhylea J. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rhylea, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents kicked me out at 19. I wasn’t sure how to do life and I wasn’t sure what my life would look like. I had dreams to finish school and continue my career with a degree that I had accepted to vanish. Being out of my parents house took so many restrictions off of my self identity, even though I struggled to make a life for myself. Although I struggled, it kept me alive. I have a life of my own that I recognize as my own, a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology that I received while working full time, an early modeling career, and a community that allows me to be myself. I couldn’t have had the opportunity to be here without my parents making a seemingly detrimental decision for my life. And I truly wouldn’t be here without my community and myself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I played sports all my life and quit because I had no passion for them. Although performance is a key part of sports, I still suffered from performance anxiety. I wanted to at least overcome my stage fright so I decided to start doing local runway shows. After 10+ local shows in one year, I knew there was still more for me. My favorite experience was the Regional Art Committee’s 40th birthday celebration, and I’m excited to participate in ALT ball this year (2026). I’ve been a part of some amazing brand shoots and collaborated with amazingly talented creatives for editorials. This year I’ll be working toward a stronger portfolio as well as prioritizing commercial content.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I love being social and networking. While this builds your following, consistency with posting will do it best. I noticed my reach doesn’t always reflect my engagement unless I’m being consistent with content.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn saying yes to everything. Even when I want to participate, sometimes I have to say no.
Your time is so much more valuable than we are made to believe. Experiences should be tailored to you and those participating. If not, then why give your time, energy or presence. After doing show after show, I was invited to more and more but it wasn’t until I really began to value the presence I bring that I was given grander opportunities.
