We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rhonda Steinke a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Rhonda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When you’ve been a professional in an industry for long enough, you’ll experience moments when the entire field takes a U-Turn, an instance where the consensus completely flips upside down or where the “best practices” completely change. If you’ve experienced such a U-Turn over the course of your professional career, we’d love to hear about it.
The u-turn came when I consistently applied Pranic Healing as a modality in my medical practice and saw the depth to the application. It is a skill that I not only use for my clients, I use it for myself and my family. It allows me to grow in all facets of life. Pranic Healing is a non-touch healing modality that uses Prana (also known as life-force or qi) to remove used up or stuck Prana inside of your energy system. Then fresh prana is applied to specific areas of the body to accelerate the healing process.
I kept up with the practice of Pranic healing, became an Associate Certified Pranic Healer and now teach the Level 1 Pranic Healing Class. Helping a patient achieve health is a joyful experience however when you are able to teach them a skill that can enhance their whole life and their loved ones it feels great.
Pranic Healing has been so helpful for me, my patients, and students that I have let go of the fear of being “weird” or judged for using it in my practice. A good friend said I have “embraced the woo” but I like to agree with my teacher, Master Co, who says Pranic Healing makes weird normal. When you give it a chance you will see that the founder of Pranic Healing, Master Choa Kok Sui was very scientific, systematized, and safe with the development and formation of Pranic Healing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I worked in a hospital to gain experience for my degree in Biomedical sciences at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI when I saw people alive and well but lacking vitality. I knew then I wanted to help people become well and vital. Naturopathic Medicine seemed the best fit as a doctorate degree offering safety for patients by teaching medicine and nutrition, botanical medicine, Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, spinal manipulation, and mind/body medicine to enhance vitality. I didn’t learn Pranic Healing as a modality until after I graduated medical school and it has been key for my practice. I love applying Pranic Healing to the end of my client’s sessions it just wipes away the stress energy and helps them heal better. I often work with people who know they are not healthy but their symptoms do not qualify for a diagnosis, medical therapy, or surgery. Other types of people I work with are those who do not respond well to the medicines that are available for their conditions. The types of therapy I provide work congruently with conventional medicine keeping safety first.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
For succeeding in the field of Naturopathic Medicine I think it is important to remain true to who we are. We are medical practitioners trying to enhance vitality. It even says so in our philosophy, The Vis Medicatrix Naturae or the Healing Power of Nature. So many people want more for their health and are looking for a way to tap into vitality. How we achieve it is what sets us apart in our own practices because there are lots of ways to help people open up to vitalistic living.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Lately I have been reading books on Leadership and I am enjoying John C Maxwell’s books, “Good leaders ask great questions” and “5 Levels of Leadership”. I picked up these books because I’ve reached a point where my future goals are beyond my current capacity. I need help and want to have great relationships with my team when I engage. From these books I have learned that I am already a leader by having a family, kids, being a volunteer, etc., and I probably should have read these books in my 20’s. Luckily the books have laid out moral strategies to catch me up, help me ask a lot of questions, and easily create better communication. The material has already paid off with my kids! I recommend these books to those who are looking for clear communication, moral boundaries, and growth within their capacity and organizations.
