We recently connected with Reza Alhosseini and have shared our conversation below.
Reza , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Mocking Mass Media series is one of my most recent paintings series that I have worked on in the past 5 years.
The catastrophic civil wars that happened in the Middle East in the past eight years inspired me to create this painting. When I follow the mainstream media news, it is full of tragedies and I ask myself what nuances helped to make them happen. Allow me to present my work before I examine it through the lens of contemporary philosophy and art.
Media shows you what they want and depicts their realities on different points of political and social views therefore, awe get a variety of representations of realities of just one event. They broadcast different copies of an original event of which just some are trustworthy.
We as a viewer in this busy life want to get the capsulated format of the news in the short amount of time and media has the power to mesmerize us in a way it wants. When they act together they can change our understanding as to create whole new universe of psychic meaning. Media could affect our conceptions about people on the other side of the world without knowing them and the sad thing is that we can’t find the reality by just watching news.
Although we live in the information age and we are all addicted to media news, there are many false distorted news sources feeding our eyes and brains, as Jean Baudrillard said: “The futility of everything that comes to us from the media is the inescapable consequence of the absolute inability of that particular stage to remain silent. Music, commercial breaks, news flashes, adverts, news broadcasts, movies, presenters— there is no alternative but to fill the screen; otherwise there would be an irremediable void. That’s why the slightest technical hitch, the slightest slip on the part of the presenter becomes so exciting, for it reveals the depth of the emptiness squinting out at us through this little window.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a professional painter based in San Francisco, I have been painting for 23 years and have a strong academic background in painting and drawing.
I have been working with architects and designers and showrooms and art collectors for interior and exterior projects for several years and can create a fabulous painting commission and mural for their space.
I offer great prices and pretty flexible with hours and schedules and I work closely with my clients, going back and forth on their concepts and designs to choose the strongest one and get your best commission done.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Painting is a perennial search and exploration of my everyday life and It is like a warm friendly dialogue between me and my piece. To me as an artist there is always something exciting to explore in my surroundings and it makes my life more meaningful and break me out of my boring daily routines.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be represented by a high end and prestigious San Francisco gallery in five years.
