We recently connected with Rebekah Depriest and have shared our conversation below.
Rebekah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am very happy as a business owner. I have had several regular jobs and this is truly my passion. Being my own boss, working my own hours, and still fulfilling my role as a mother and wife has been so fulfilling. Just a few nights ago I had a bride book me for a bridal session at sunset. It was a beautiful night, the couple was so fun, and I really felt lucky to be doing this as work, because it didn’t feel like work, it was just fun! Capturing love on video on a random Tuesday night while my baby was asleep at home was not something I ever pictured doing, let alone getting paid for.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rebekah, I grew up in southern Colorado and I currently live in Idaho. I got my first DSLR camera in high school as a Christmas gift and quickly began taking photos of friends and family. I realized I didn’t have quite the eye for photography, so that passion slowly died off. Then, a dear friend asked if I would try and film her wedding. I had never filmed a wedding, or anything for that matter, but I did it for her! Somehow, filming and editing video footage was so exciting and fun. Since then, I have been filming weddings for five years. My specialty is highlight films. My film style is classic and warm toned. When filming weddings, I take a “fly on the wall” approach. I think that is what sets me apart. Couples already have so much on their minds and in their way on their special day. I don’t want them to worry about me or what I’m asking them to do. I’ve always loved to “capture the candid” from a distance and deliver wedding videos that show a perspective that no one else had at the wedding. I love knowing that my couples can watch their wedding day back and see moments that they hadn’t seen on their special day.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media has been a huge tool for marketing my videography business. One thing I’ve learned is that consistency is key. As you continue to show up, videos and posts will start to take off and clients will share your work with friends. Social media can become the online version of “word of mouth”.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
As I mentioned earlier, the best source of new clients for me has been social media. I have had new clients find me from an Instagram reel, and I have pitched myself in wedding Facebook groups. Social media is so often used these days to find services, so marketing there has proved very beneficial for me!
