We recently connected with Ramona Trevino and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ramona thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I think the most meaningful project was being introduced to radio by some dear friends. I was working on my 2nd book and I met the kindest station owners at an event. They invited me on their live show and I loved it! We continued to meet weekly to discuss my book and I learned so much from them. Once the book was published I was sad thinking “Now what” To my surprise they suggested I start my own show. I was surprised and told them, I was not sure how to even begin. They offered to mentor me through the stages and suggested that I call the show the same title of my book, Blossoms of My Life. This book emphasis was to show others that we all have blossoms in our lives, people who touch us in one way or another. My book was about the parents of some very special students I had taught over the years as a special education teacher. So I took them up on the offer and I am forever grateful! That was in 2018. Since then I have interviewed so my wonderful people and have even started a non-profit under the same name.
The station was sold and I was so sad, thinking this was going to be over, but God had other plans. My wonderful friends showed my how to record with my phone and my laptop and that is how the show is done today!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was a very troubled young girl with many traumas that were affecting me. In the 60’s not many parents understood depression and anxiety. As an adult I self medicated for years with alcohol and some drugs. This took me down some very dark places in my life. By the grace of God, one day someone told me about Jesus and how He could help me. I soon began my walk with Christ at the age of 14. My parents were not too keen about the idea and of course would not take me to the church so eventually I fell away. I struggled in and out through my adult life. I would find a church and attend and do well, then I would get sidetracked and stop going. I had one foot with God and one foot doing what I wanted. It was not working! Finally at the age of 50 ( a very long journey) I decided to fully commit my life to following Christ. I was rescued out of my abusive situation, police with guns on my house. I cried as I watched in horror and was so broken. I had enough. I am now 66 years old and my life could not be better. I am a licensed pastor with a local church and love love love my relationship with Christ. I tell many that the Lord definitely left the 99 just for me!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I believe the story of how I was rescued by the police on that crazy day when I left that situation as I mentioned earlier. Once I made up my mind that I was never going back I stayed strong. I still had issues with depression and anxiety due to PTSD. But I never gave up. I embraced the help of many pastors and attended many different small groups to learn more about Jesus. Little by little I became stronger. One day I had my pastor pray over me that I would be healed from depression and anxiety. I knew the moment he put his hand on me and started to pray that this was going to be my last day of those diagnosis’ It has been over 10 years now that I have been healed. This resilience continued on with me. I continued to write books, that is when I started the radio/podcast show. I always tell others that God is the CEO and I will continue to work for Him as long as He desires.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One other story I want to share is when I published my first book. I was so excited about the manuscript and the thought of a Christian Publisher saying yes seemed so right. That first book titled” Free at Last the Struggle to be Good Enough” ( 3rd edition now) was part of story and my healing. Anyways this publisher was great at the beginning but after about 6 months they started to delay emails and they were not responding after sending them large sums of money. Then one day I saw on the news that they were closed and were arrested for embezzlement. Oh my goodness, I was shocked. I was so sad and did not know what to do next. There were thousands of authors and musicians that lost their work and their money. I cried and asked God if this was over, was my writing over? Then all of a sudden I felt the nudge to search for help. I was able to find someone to teach me about self publishing on KDP ( part of Amazon) I was able to save my book and that was the 2nd edition! I have since published 6 books and helped 2 other authors with their books. Resilience! and not giving up on what God had already instilled in me. Stay faithful and believe in what you are creating and your hearts desire.
