We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Rachel Medina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Rachel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
Social media glamorizes the laptop lifestyle with young, seemingly free entrepreneurs working from exotic beachside locations. However, the realities of building a home based business and harnessing its benefits while remaining highly productive, can bare a stark contrast to those viral images – especially when you are building and managing a team.
Pitfalls range from anything as simple as losing focus when the dryer peeps, to feeling like you’re alone on an island for days on end.
Yet, the benefits outweigh the cons – by far! If you can tap into the reasons why you wanted to work from home in the first place, you may find it simple to reset your mindset and get back into the groove of things. For me, living and working in Southern California means feeling extremely grateful that I no longer have to sit in rush hour traffic to commute to and from the office like I had done while working in Corporate.
Working from home affords women like me the opportunity to build businesses from home on our terms and the quality of life that incorporates me time, we time and the time needed to truly create a life worth living.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Rachel Medina, entrepreneur, podcast host, and speaker, helping businesses building women unpack their passion, purpose, and profits!
After becoming a single mother, I faced the financial and emotional realities of being the sole provider of two teenage boys. Although my career had been pretty good up until then, I found myself feeling undervalued, overworked, and at a loss for how to make a change for the better with my kids in tow.
I knew that I was capable of building brands, teams, and profit margins for other media companies and their owners. Yet, the thought of doing that for myself seemed impossible until I actually did it!
Figuring out how to build a business, brand, and team while working from home wasn’t always easy, but it was absolutely worth it!
Now, I’m on a mission to encourage as many women and mothers as I possibly can to believe in bigger for themselves and their families via the Rachel Unpacked podcast, and through the SHE•E•O community platforms.
Each of us is just one brilliant business idea away from changing the trajectory of our life and our lineage for generations!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Deciding to break up with corporate and tap into what we now love referring to as the SHEconomy by building a business from home, was pretty frightening at first. Adding team members, and having to pave the path ahead without a guarantee that you’ll meet success, you guessed it, scary!
However, if I had let my fear get louder than my faith, we would have never seen the proof that we could build a 7 figure business – from home!
Once we performed at that level on a consistent basis, that gave me the confidence to dream bigger and get clearer about what type of life I truly wanted for me and my family.
A tragic loss in my personal life and a global pandemic gave space for reflection. Turns out, I wanted a life of true fulfillment and one that makes an impact in the lives of others, and that meant, breaking up with that business and going all in on my purpose – helping women from all starting points get the support and guidance they need to break up with corporate and build businesses they love – from home!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I have had to unlearn is the idea that you have to work hard or hustle harder than everyone else in order to achieve great success.
When in fact, you need to simply get honest about your passion, lean in towards your purpose, and tap into your faith on a deeper level, and the money, success, opportunities, and fulfillment, will show up in ways that no amount of effort on your part could have created.
In 2021, after the dust began to settle post-covid, I found myself uninspired to reboot my business, which had been quite successful for several years before 2020. I didn’t close it entirely, however, I understood that recovery would be a big undertaking and the time, energy and resources it would take to bring it back to its glory days might be better served in starting a new business that actually fuels my passion and serves my purpose.
I went all in on that path with faith and focus, along with a great sense of joy and enthusiasm, and the support of those closest to me, including Daneen San Pedro, who was taking this leap with me. Thus then, the SHE.E.O brand was born! We have since seen an overflow of opportunities and amazing experiences as we build a brand that supports women on their path towards entrepreneurship – and now in Español with Jackie Hernandez and Maria Reyes leading SHE.E.O Latina!
I got honest about my passion, clear about my purpose, and the people, profits, and promotion needed to succeed – are aligning beautifully!
