We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Prism Kru. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Prism Kru below.
Prism Kru, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you manage your own social media?
We manage our own social media because we want to be authentic and true to our brand! Our content is mostly K-Pop dance covers on YouTube and a TikTok filled with dance trends and silly memes! For those starting out, we recommend to really immerse yourself in the area you want to create content in. Learning about the trends in that area can really help with creating your own content! It really helps with what is working for people and also knowing what is missing in that area. So take what is missing in that area and create content on it! You may fail but you also may succeed, and that is the hardest part of social media. Being okay with failing but most importantly learning from all the failures and continuing on!
Prism Kru, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! We are Prism Kru from Chicago, Illinois! We are a K-Pop cover dance team that was established in 2013. Started as a group of friends who just wanted to dance together and slowly became a close-knit family that has traveled all around the world dancing to K-Pop!
We have opened up for Korean artists such as San E, Mad Clown, HyunA, and Nada, as well as American artist H.E.R. We have performed and placed 1st in competitions all over the US as well as internationally as one of the World Champions at the 2022 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival held in South Korea. We strive to connect Korean pop culture with Western culture through our high energy performances.
Our team is always trying our best to show our best potentials. We are very performance based but occasionally we produce video projects for our YouTube channel.
Last year was our proudest year yet! We have traveled all across the world and placed 1st in 5 competitions that year alone! Our most proudest moment would be representing the USA at the K-Pop Cover Dance Festival Finals in South Korea and placing 1st along with Team Thailand and Team Philippines. To receive the opportunity to travel to South Korea and perform alone was already a precious top prize for us. We are truly grateful for that once in a lifetime opportunity.
What sets us apart from others is our trust in each other and pulling a lot of late nights/early mornings to perfect each project. We believe that every project we put out is a reflection of our best work and we always pay close attention to detail. Along with performing and filming videos, another thing that is important to us is our sense of community. Since we travel a lot, there are a lot of opportunities to meet new people that have the same passions. We are constantly trying to connect with other people and create new relationships that in hope will turn into future collaborations and new opportunities!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a team, we are constantly working towards being better every day. Starting out, we were just a group of friends that joined together for our love for dance. We didn’t know much about organizing a dance team, the foundations of dance itself or how to be good teammates to each other. We have learned a lot from the seniors and mentors in our dance community in Chicago and have open communication with our members about things we have found that worked, and things that didn’t work. Along the road, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs as every team goes through, but our passion of K-Pop dance and putting out our best art always gets us through.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect in our field is the opportunity to travel and meet new people. We are just a group of people that love to dance to K-Pop music, so we never would have imagined to travel to all parts of the world and meet other people that also do the same thing and also help us get other awesome performance opportunities!
