We recently connected with Pier Mason and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Pier, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In life we all have to take risk, but the most satisfying risk are the ones that force the hustle out of you. Hairstyling was a gift that came to me naturally. I styled my sisters, my cousins, all the neighborhood girls, friends, and the list goes on. My entire life I did hair. However, instead of going to school for hair I decided to get my business degree. I working in corporate America for 12 years before I decided I had enough. I put my way through cosmetology school, built clientele, and worked my full time job. Once I felt like I was stable enough, I quit and chose to work in my salon full time. This was the most scariest yet fulfilling risk I had ever taken. While there was moments of trying to understand if I made the right decision something would always show me that I was doing the right thing. Having faith the size of a mustard seed has put me in so many places that I would have never expected. I’ve worked on several movie sets, music videos, short films, weddings, private house calls for celebrities all while managing my salon. This journey has taught me to always bet on myself 100%, God will never lead you and leave you. So when times get rocky, I pray, have faith and get out there and hustle. Choosing to leave corporate America was the best decision for me!

Pier, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the hair industry because I knew I had a natural God given talent that I needed to use. Styling hair has been a part of me since I was born. It was natural. Being a hairstylist is not as easy as people think. You have to have a different type of discipline and drive. You have to get up everyday and manage your business, do inventory, book keeping, accounting, styling hair, marketing, and the list goes on lol. There are no off days. When I’m not in my salon, I’m still working on my salon.
I genuinely give my all to each client. I educate all of my clients on their personal hair journey. I help all of my clients understand that hair care is not just about going to a salon, but also about environmental differences, personal care regimens, what you consume, etc. I take the time to learn all of my clients. My clients are spoiled, especially with my shampoos which come with invigorating steam treatments and scalp massages. It’s not just about hair care but self care. I want all of my clients to relax and be free during their appointments. Life goes on outside of my salon walls but in my shop, it’s just us. I provide a judgement free zone where my clients feel safe. I’m proud of the fact that all of my clients feel love when they walk in. Not only will my clients gain a hairstylist who actually takes care of their hair, they will also gain a genuine soul as a friend and family member.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media is a powerful tool. Entrepreneurship requires you to focus on many different tabs. One is content creation. Content creation for social media allows your business to be reached by individuals that are not directly connected to you. Learning the algorithms of social media and posting content at the right time has assisted in bringing in more new clientele.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency. People love consistency and discipline. I put my all into my clients. I give them the same treatment I would want. Shampoo’s are included in every style. I am focused on providing all of my clients with a proper shampoo. This is shampooing 3xs, scalp detoxing, steam treatments, and scalp massages. I want all of my clients fully relaxed during my services.
