We were lucky to catch up with Peter Freischlag recently and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
My journey as an artists took a giant step in 2023 as I exclusively signed with Anticus, the premier gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. Three years in the making, the move into the gallery world pushed my art and validated so much of what I have been working toward. Surreal!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2022 I was among the top selling watercolorists in North America with studios in both Golden, Colorado and Gilbert, Arizona. I am thrilled to be exclusively represented by the renowned Scottsdale gallery Anticus. In 2024, I will also return to the 10 week Arizona Art Expo in Scottsdale. Recently, I was humbled to have been selected as the only “Master Artist” from the Colorado Art Weekend 2022 awards.

I have been an artist for as long as he can remember and I still have the ceramic dinosaur, I created at just 4 years old. I am a mood painter creating images through the bold and dramatic use of color, harmony, and context creating contemporary impressions. My watercolors push the boundaries of the traditional medium as I have created new and innovative ways to display his work. I am a risk taker and this is seen in my art.
My most satisfying ventures arrive from partnering with philanthropic avenues such as Habitat, The American Brest Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Wake Forest Hospital and Crescent Cove to name a few. I am currently partnered with The Colorado Wild Animal Sanctuary.
I also love collaborating with clients to create the perfect piece of art for their specific space. The most prominent feature of my art lies in his ability to get my viewer to respond emotionally to my creation.
And, if it looks like my art in fun to do, it is!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
If I were to advise a younger artist about what resources to foster in their journey, it would be other creatives. Your “tribe” is your greatest resource and since this journey is typically taken alone, those in your corner and on the same journey are ever so valuable.
Other creatives have provided tremendous support and encouragement along with directional advice acting as sounding boards for my work and it’s presentation and the navigation of a sometimes cruel adventure. My “tribe” is the most important part of my ability to move forward, make connections, and continue to have faith in the creative world I live in.
So, cultivate your “tribe” and foster those positive relationships with others on the same path as those bonds are stronger than one can imagine.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my artist’s journey was significant and forever. Once I got on the path, I had to go, physically, to where the center of the art world was happening. Our moves to Golden, Colorado and then, more significantly, Scottsdale, Arizona allowed this to happen. It allowed for more connections and interactions with other creatives and it allowed me to be right in the center of the art world. It is where I need to be, period.
