As a former Bronx gang member, I grew up amidst chaotic struggles—fending off the insidious reach of addiction and prostitution in my family, while simultaneously being fortified by the unwavering strength of my mother. She evolved from facing adversities to becoming the highest-ranking Latina leader in the NYC Board of Education, embodying a transformative leadership that drastically altered our lives.
At 17, with the gritty determination sparked by a realization of my own worth and potential, I left the gang, traversed an ocean, and immersed myself in Spain, though I didn’t speak the language. This radical change paved the way for me to establish the first three bilingual nursery schools for expatriates in Spain.
Upon returning to the States, my career propelled from being a receptionist at Pierre Cardin/Gant to executive leadership roles, consistently breaking through the glass and cultural ceilings as often the lone woman and Hispanic leader in the room.
My journey sparked two pivotal questions:

How do women and minorities navigate their own paths to leadership?
These inquiries, coupled with a Master’s in Social Work focused on Organizational and Group Development, opened gateways to a myriad of discussions about women and minorities in the workplace on TV and beyond.
