Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patrick Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Patrick, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the most significant risks I took in life was abruptly quitting my corporate job without any clear visibility on the horizon. I was in my late 30s and had an excellent, high-paying corporate job but hated it. I knew how easy it would be to keep showing up and getting a paycheck. However, it wasn’t fulfilling, and I knew I didn’t want to spend the next 20+ years doing it. I was raised in an environment that upholds the fundamental value of stopping complaining and doing something to make it how you want it. So, I convinced myself, walked in one day, and quit even though I didn’t know what I would do next. In hindsight, I was either brave or foolish. But knowing myself, I knew that would light the fire of finding and creating my next chapter. A couple of weeks into unemployment, I was online and stumbled on a Real Estate School. I had owned several homes and thought I could use this “free” time to go to school and be better educated about the industry and processes. At that time, I never thought about actually becoming a Realtor because working on a commission basis sounded absurd to me. However, as the classes progressed, I became more hooked. The potential opportunity was very appealing to me, and I realized that this is what I want to do and be the best at it. So, I got my license, embarked on a newfound path, and never looked back. 20+ years later, I still love what I do and couldn’t picture myself doing anything else. The profession is so unbelievably rewarding on so many levels. I love helping people navigate the process of buying or selling a home. The other factor that drives me daily is my control over my success and failures: it’s all on me. This sense of liberty makes the achievements feel much better and makes the losses a true learning experience. The path to get here took a while, but knowing what you do and your direction will lead you to boundless prospects and opportunities.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been in Real Estate – a passion I didn’t know I had – for 20+ years. This passion combines my desire to help people and a love for overcoming challenges, topped with my exuberant personality. I see selling real estate as a unique opportunity to help people navigate a challenging experience with the goal of life and the home they love. Purchasing a home is one of the most stressful experiences in a person’s life, and I feel it’s my job to make sure I make it as hassle-free as possible. I focus on solutions and results, not letting the bump and roadblocks along the way control the process. I also value the relationship with my clients and maintain connections with them even after we close the deal. As a result, most of my clients have become friends and entrust me to help them, their families, and friends find or sell their homes. Of course, the best part of my job is the look on someone’s face when we’ve closed on their new home or sold their current one, knowing that I had played an essential part in starting a new chapter in their lives.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Many years ago, people used to think there needed to be a division between your business and personal life. In fact, many people still believe in this strong school of thought, particularly in social media presence. However, this seemed contrary to how I grew my business over the first couple of years. I wanted my current and prospective clients to know my personal and professional side of life. Combining the two aspects would strengthen my image as a Realtor. So, I decided to keep my personal and business presence going hand-in-hand on social media. Exposing parts of your personal moments on the platforms would distinguish you from other Realtors in this industry. Your viewers, who could be your future clients, would see your authenticity as a Realtor and a person. The most important thing to keep in mind as a Realtor is that “You” are your brand.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Availability is one word to sum up how I build my reputation in the business: I am always available. I love what I do, and I am always open to talking with anyone about real estate. To share the knowledge and experiences I had given me exhilaration no matter whether the person I was chatting with was my client or not. It’s the first impression that matters. I want them to start a great conversation with me. If they are a client, that could be an excellent start to the process. If they are not clients, at the very least, they will learn that I know what I do, which could open up myriad opportunities in the future. For example, they could be a prospective client, or they would refer me to their friends or families.
