We recently connected with Ty Hicks and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ty thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
Team building is hard. One must learn to trust and lean on others. This was indeed a difficult process for me. But I knew that it would take time and hard work to get to a point where I could entrust my business/brand or even afford employees. Turns out my first employee and now my business partner is my sister, Niesha (Nikki) Hicks. With us a team I was successfully able to focus on the hard labor while she handled day to day in the office. It didn’t take long for people around me to notice my work ethic and dedication. I begin to hirer young mentees who needed and wanted to make their own money. More importantly, they needed guidance and had the confidence in me to guide them. There was no real interview process just trial and error of who really was ready to be a part of our team. It was a bit unconventional but, seemed to be the best process for us. If I had to start all over again, I would not do it any other way.
Ty, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Tyrone “Ty” Hicks god fearing, family man and entrepreneur. My first business I started was a lawncare service. I was taught by my father about the ins and outs of lawncare. Once he decided to retire from it, I decided to take over and name the business Hicks and Son’s Premier Services. From there I opened several other businesses and, in this order… TKT Premier Cuts, TKT Playtime Entertainment/TKT Gamers Zone, TKT Premier Auto’s, founded a nonprofit 1 Village Inc, A&T Vending and now coming soon TKT Playtime Inflata Park. By far, TKT Playtime Entertainment/TKT Gamers Zone and 1 Village Inc have been the most rewarding. Being able to put smiles on kids’ faces with services we offer is priceless. Our current clients. potential clients and followers need to know that the TKT brand is here to bring nothing but joy and positivity. Our goal is to uplift and encourage our surrounding communities. Readers can visit our websites tktplaytime.com, tktgamerszone.com and 1villageinc.org.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My cofounder/business partner is none other than my sister, Niesha (Nikki) Hicks. As we grew up, we learned it was just us once should something happen to mom and dad. From there we have been the best of friends!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth has been the best source for new clients for us. We pat ourselves on the back for providing great customer service and loyalty to our clients.
