Oxana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Yes, absolutely. Because my work uses Russian folk visual language in a contemporary way, it’s sometimes misunderstood as purely decorative rather than fine art with deeper cultural meaning.
I use traditional elements like kokoshniks, ornament, and historical symbolism—not to recreate the past, but to reinterpret heritage through a modern lens.
That taught me an important lesson: not everyone needs to understand your work immediately. The right audience will connect with the meaning behind it, not just the surface aesthetics. Being misunderstood actually made me more confident in my artistic voice.

I’m a contemporary artist rooted in Slavic visual heritage, creating original paintings and wearable art that blend tradition with a modern visual language.
My work reinterprets historical motifs like kokoshniks, ornament, and symbolism in a bold contemporary way. What sets my work apart is the fusion of fine art, craftsmanship, and cultural storytelling.
My goal is to create work that is not only visually striking, but meaningful—art that carries identity, memory, and strength.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to reinterpret and evolve Slavic visual heritage through contemporary art. I want to show that traditional cultural language can feel powerful, relevant, and alive today—not trapped in the past. My work is about identity, symbolism, craftsmanship, and creating meaningful visual stories that connect heritage with the modern world.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience continues to grow, and the process has taught me a lot about consistency, authenticity, resilience, and experimentation. My advice is to focus on authenticity rather than chasing trends. Share your real work, your process, and your voice. The right audience takes time to find, but consistency matters more than perfection.
