We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Orion Navaille a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Orion thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My stepdad called me out for playing Guitar Hero all the time. “If you played an actual guitar as much as you played that game, you’d actually be pretty good.” I really took these words to heart and asked him to take me to get a guitar and amp the next day. From that point on I’d play 4-6 hours a day – I was obsessed. learning the guitar gave me the musical ear I needed to start making full productions on my computer and from that point on, it became my life.
Orion, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My original passion in life was film, but about halfway through my first semester at college, I realized I was more passionate about music. That lead me to switch my major to Music Recording and Technology. After graduating I was waiting tables at a restaurant and DJing weddings. My first professional gig was as an assistant engineer to Joachim Garraud in LA which I did for a couple of years.
I now work as the Partnership Manager and instructor at ICON Collective College of Music in Burbank CA, run my own mixing and mastering service, and have recently launched my new project NOIRION which is a combination of EDM, hip hop, emo guitar, and hyperpop.
I enjoy all of these ventures. I really enjoy teaching and helping others hone their craft. I was lucky to have a very influential instructor during my college years and I’m grateful to be able to pass on that experience to others. Mixing and mastering are also incredibly rewarding because I’m able to make my client’s songs sound the way they hear them in their heads.
The start of my personal artist project NOIRION was a big step for me. In July of 2022, I went through a very difficult breakup and that inspired a lot of new music. It also inspired me to sing on all my songs which I had never done before. It acted as an amazing outlet for all the emotions I was feelings and even now that those wounds have healed I still look at it as a way to express all the thoughts I have in my head.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To me the very concept of music is amazing. It’s nothing but organized sound vibrations but it can evoke such powerful emotions. I know how it makes me feel when I’m absolutely in love with a piece of music and if I can give that feeling to someone else, then that’s mission accomplished for me.
I’d eventually like to put out instructional content for aspiring artists and musicians as well. As an artist, wanting your music to sound a certain way, but being unable to get that sound can be incredibly frustrating. I do every part of the song creation process myself, from writing, recording, and production to mixing and mastering. I’d like to share that knowledge with others.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve never been a fan of social media and stayed very silent on it until it was time to start releasing music as NOIRION. I wanted to find a way to make social media fun so I could enjoy it more. I’ve always been a fan of good TV and movies so I started taking scenes from shows and movies that I like and playing guitar over those. I didn’t expect it be as popular as it turned out to be but those types of videos have helped my Instagram grow from zero to nearly 5.5k followers in a few months. Find something that you find enjoyable and that other people will relate to.
