We were lucky to catch up with Omar Juarez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Omar, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In the pursuit of our dreams, we often find ourselves standing at the precipice of risk, where the unknown beckons with both promise and uncertainty. My journey as a filmmaker has been no exception, and the moment I took the risk of embracing this adventure it changed my life.
I took the risk of moving from the west coast to the east coast and I embarked on this transcontinental journey; like countless dreamers before me, I was well aware that this undertaking would be accompanied by sleepless nights, financial strains, and an inevitable sense of isolation from the familiar. It was a heart-wrenching process, contemplating whether to leave behind the security of my East Coast roots.
I left my comfort zone behind and set forth on my new path. Challenges and obstacles loomed, but I understood that it was through these trials that I would discover my true potential.
The outcome of this risk was a profound transformation, both personally and professionally. I found myself in a place where creativity flowed freely, where opportunities beckoned at every corner, and where I was constantly inspired by the creative energy of the west coast.
In retrospect, I realize that it was the willingness to embrace this risk that allowed me to tap into my fullest potential as a filmmaker. It’s true, as the saying goes, that ‘in life, you have to take risks; playing it safe might make things easier, but innovation and growth come from trials and challenges.’ For those who aren’t afraid to risk it all, dreams become attainable, and the rewards are immeasurable.
As in life, it is often in the daring leaps of faith that we find our truest selves and our greatest achievements.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a filmmaker, and at the heart of what I do is the art of storytelling. My journey into this industry started with a burning passion for visual storytelling that led me to explore various aspects of filmmaking. Over time, I’ve worn multiple hats, each contributing to my unique perspective as a creative professional.
As a creative producer, I collaborate with brands to develop innovative and engaging advertisements. I take pride in my ability to craft creative ad campaigns that not only capture the essence of a brand but also resonate with the audience. Solving the challenge of how to effectively convey a brand’s message and values through visual storytelling is something I find both exhilarating and rewarding.
Additionally, my work extends to producing commercials and photography projects for a diverse range of brands. Through my lens, I bring their visions to life, translating concepts into captivating visual content that speaks to their target audiences.
On the other hand, as a freelance cinematographer, I immerse myself in the world of narrative filmmaking. I collaborate with talented storytellers, helping them bring their cinematic visions to reality. There’s something incredibly gratifying about capturing emotions, characters, and narratives on film, and I cherish the role I play in making those stories come alive on the screen.
What truly sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to the power of storytelling. Whether it’s through creative ads or narrative films, I believe that storytelling is the cornerstone of my success. I approach each project with the mindset that a compelling story lies at its core, waiting to be discovered and shared.
What I’m most proud of is the diverse range of projects I’ve been fortunate to be a part of. From working with iconic brands to collaborating with independent filmmakers, I’ve had the privilege of being involved in a broad spectrum of creative endeavors. This diversity has enriched my storytelling skills and allowed me to continually evolve as a filmmaker.
To potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my work is a reflection of my deep passion for storytelling. Whether you’re a brand looking to create impactful advertisements or a filmmaker seeking to breathe life into your narrative, I’m here to help you realize your creative vision. Together, we’ll embark on a journey to tell stories that resonate, inspire, and leave a lasting impression on audiences.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is deeply rooted in a simple yet profound goal: to sustain and nurture my creativity for as long as possible. At its core, my mission is to continue making films and telling stories that resonate with people.
Throughout my career, I’ve dedicated myself to honing my creative skills, embracing the process of growth and learning. My mission is to be prepared for any creative challenge that comes my way. Whether it’s working on innovative ad campaigns for brands, collaborating with fellow filmmakers on narrative projects, or exploring new frontiers of visual storytelling, I strive to be versatile and adaptable.
In essence, my goal is to remain an ever-evolving creative force, ready to embark on new artistic journeys and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of filmmaking. I believe that by staying true to this mission, I can continue to inspire and connect with audiences through the timeless art of storytelling.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
My journey to fund my business and acquire the essential equipment was a gradual process filled with determination and resourcefulness. I started by purchasing a used camera and lens, which served as my entry point into the world of photography and cinematography. This initial investment allowed me to begin offering portrait sessions and actor headshots.
In the early stages, I relied on the income generated from these client sessions to fuel my business. With each new headshot client, I dedicated a portion of my earnings to acquiring the necessary gear and equipment. It was a step-by-step process, and I was intentional about reinvesting in my craft.
Over the years, this sustainable approach began to yield results. I saw my arsenal of equipment steadily grow, piece by piece. It was a testament to the power of patience and persistence. Before I knew it, I had assembled all the essential tools needed to not only sustain but also elevate my business.
This journey taught me the value of hard work and the importance of strategic financial planning. It wasn’t about overnight success; rather, it was about a gradual accumulation of resources through dedication and the belief in the long-term potential of my creative endeavors.
Looking back, I can proudly say that my initial investment in that used camera and lens was the catalyst for my creative business, and my commitment to reinvestment ultimately allowed me to reach a point where I had the equipment and resources needed to provide exceptional services to my clients.
