We were lucky to catch up with Olivia Scott recently and have shared our conversation below.
Olivia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As an actress, I have always loved performing and being in front of the camera but I also have a passion for other aspects of the film industry and producing and writing have always interested me too. Just under eight months ago, my friend from an acting class and I came up with the idea for our own show, ‘Back of House,’ we then co-wrote, co-produced, self-funded and co-starred in the pilot for it. We then pitched it to an internationally-recognised casting director, Tom McSweeney, not only did Tom like it but he also offered to direct it for us. We will release our trailer on Friday and will be releasing our pilot for ‘Back of House’ in the next few weeks. ‘Back of House’ is a comedic show that is a never-before seen look at what really goes on ‘back of house’ at your local restaurant and bar.

Olivia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Australian actress, producer and writer. I grew up watching lots of old movies and fell in love with acting at a really early age and when I was eight years old, announced to my mother that I was going to be an actress when I grew up. I started theatre classes and did some stage plays as well as dipping my foot in some musical theatre (not for me, I cannot dance haha!) I then started taking screen classes when I was in high school and got myself an agent, from there I started with extra work, then moved onto short and independent films and web series. It’s only in the last 8 months that I have now become a producer and writer as well, co-creating my own show. I am very driven, organised, focused and tenacious so when I set my mind to something, I am all in. Last year I co-wrote and co-produced my own short film, a comedy, called ‘In Therapy’ which is currently doing the rounds at film festivals and my latest project, ‘Back of House’ which I co-wrote, co-produced and am co-starring in with my business partner, Patrick Hogan is currently in post-production with both US and Australian distributors interested.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I personally love about this industry, is that there is never a dull moment, there is always something happening and always something new to do. I love all aspects of film, whilst acting is my favourite, I love being a part of the whole process and getting to see ideas and concepts come to life. It’s so rewarding to think our show was just an idea eight months ago and now it’s in the editing process getting ready to appear on screens.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me it’s all about creating and being a part of projects that make an impact of some sort whether that be to make people laugh or think about something in a different way, to spark joy or to create further awareness about a topic, that for me really is the driving force behind my creative journey.
