Alright, Oberon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?

I have been happy as an artist and creator my whole life. Indeed, nothing make me happier! I have held several other jobs over the years, and they have been OK, but my heart and soul yearn to create! And so that’s what I do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Well, I have written 20 books so far, with many more in my lineup. I’ve published newsletters and magazines since high school, with my most important one being “Green Egg,” since 1968–the longest-running magickal publication ever–now 56 years and 186 issues! After 3 decades of being a printed newsstand magazine, it’s currently online.

Over all those years I had written countless articles and editorials–but I never considered writing a book until 2002, at the age of 60. I was asked by the acquisitions editor of New Page Books to write a book for them. It was in the middle of the Harry Potter craze, so my first book was “Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard” (2004)–a textbook on real arcane arts and magickal lore and practice. It immediately became a best-seller for New Page, as did the net two books I wrote for them: “Companion for the Apprentice Wizard” (2006) and “Creating Circles & Ceremonies” (2006). And I was off and running!

The “Grimoire” was a textbook for a school that didn’t yet exist, so I had to also create a school for it: the Grey School of Wizardry (opened in 2004). It has also been tremendously successful, and now has a physical campus in Whitehall, NY. In November of 2022 I passed the torch of Headmaster on to my protege, Nicholas Kingsley, and I’m very proud of how he has continued to carry the Vision forward. And I keep writing books–all of which are available on Amazon.com. My books are unique, and the reviews are amazing.

But writing books isn’t all I do. Since about 1990 I’ve designed a large selection of jewelry–which is currently being produced by Peter Stone Co. out of Thailand. And I’ve sculpted a few dozen statues and figurines of gods, goddesses, and mythical beasties which have also been very successful. The most famous is my image of Mother Earth: “The Millennial Gaia.” My line of figurines is currently being produced and marketed by Pacific Trading Company, and can be seen in metaphysical stores everywhere.

But my most dramatic creative project was certainly my creation of genuine living Unicorns in the early 1980s. I leased a few of them to the Ringling Bros/Barnum & Bailey Circus, where they became world-famous.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

Wherever I go in my travels–doing workshops, book-signings and speaking engagements, and visiting people all over the Western Hemisphere–I am touched delighted to see my statues and plaques in the stores and on people’s altars and walls. And seeing my jewelry on chains around people’s necks, and my books on their bookshelves. And people telling me how much my work over the past 50 years has touched and influenced them.
